On another thread someone mentioned that kiffin will leave after 6 yrs for "greener pastures" which i completely disagree with. I think CLK will be here for Years to come. My Points

1. No ties to Notre Dame
2. Didn't have a great NFL Experience so why go back
3. We have A 1st rate program when it comes to tradition, athletic facilities, and we play in the best conference.
4. After he builds the vols into a powerhouse, he's gonna stick around to enjoy it!

what do you guys think?

How ever long Pete Carroll wants to coach

I highly doubt Kiffin wants to go back to Los Angeles. He's sees the difference in the passion between the respective schools. If he wins, and wins big, he'll be compensated as such (i.e. we'll match any offer).

I think Kiffin and his family really like Knoxville and intend to stay for the long haul. Of course, that's if all goes as planned.

I think it comes down to when his dad hangs it up and how well O takes over the entire defense. What coaches come and go. I'd love a CPC type that builds it up then lives the life with a built up program. Only College I could see him leave for is USC and that is a HUGE maybe. That is where he got his name but if UT is a top 5 team year in and year out I dont see why he would ever leave to stay in college. With Pro: I believe it is going to have to be a team with a good owner/GM and a team with good level of talent. No way would he go to Oakland, Browns, Tampa Bay or Titans etc.

Right. Wifey supposedly really likes K town, their house etc...

I Kiffin can win and win consistantly he will be in Knoxville for quite a while.

I do think his competative nature will eventually lure him back to the NFL but not for at least 10 years.

Of coures all this hinges on winning and winning SEC and Nat't titles.

I hope he becomes a historical coach to the Vols as Bear Bryant was to Alabama.

Do you really think the he'd get the job at USC? If he builds this program up to where we expect him to, I'd think he'd stick around because you don't get much better than a top SEC program. If he doesn't, I don't think he'd have a shot at the USC job.

Probably 5 years or until something more attractive to him opens up on the left coast. First he has to prove himself as a head coach. He's half a year into that process. He'll be here a fairly long time unless he's fired.

I think there are a few questions, some of which have been asked here.

1. Without toking the orange stogie, where does TN rank in terms of desirability to coach? The whole package considered. How many college jobs would be an upgrade?

2. He is very upwardly mobile. The NFL may tempt him again.

3. USC is surely a threat. Carroll is not getting any younger. However, their staff is filled with great coaches and a promotion seems in order to limit the affect that a change would bring to recruiting. The machine is running fine. They will probably keep it that way.

4. Kiffin's happiness in Tennessee. Does he like it here as a community to live in or does he enjoy CA better?

These, in my eyes, are the biggest questions/issues. Assuming he does well, keeps us out of probation and doesn't get fired!

I think for any of this to happen he'll first have to make a contender out of the Vols and sustain it over a period of time. I don't think he's looking to retire here, but when and if he leaves it will be in better shape than he found it.

I agree with your point. His long term success with depend on how he reloads his assistant coaches. As much as like the current staff, most are far to talented to not be head coaches someday.

Six years seems about right, assuming Kiffin is successful at restoring the Vols to being a perennial top ten team.

I don't see him leaving for another college job. He would have his recruiting network established here and no other college job would be more prestigious than a successful Tennessee program.

But, after restoring the Vols to glory, pro offers will come and I do think he would like another shot at the pros. Look at all the great college coaches who went to the NFL and failed, to succeed there would put you ahead of all of them. Kiffin seems to be an ambitious guy and for a coach there is no higher achievement than being a successful pro coach.

If he fails to turn the Vols around I think he lasts only 3 maybe 4 years.
