If we do land JG as our next coach, how long does it take him to turn the program around and how long before we are officially back on top of the SEC?

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.....

Gruden is a cool guy and will bring lots of national media attention. However, I am worried about the hire. If he is the guy picked, he will have a huge hill to climb. It will take three full recruiting seasons to get the depth and experience needed regardless of who the coach is. Is there anyone better to get? I think so, but it appears most people on this board want Gruden. We will see what Hart decides to do. Like I have said all along, this is a make or break hire.

Didn't it take Bama a couple of years when they hired NS. Was there roster in better shape than ours is now?

Anyone else worried that he might be a temporary fix and bolt to the NFL after a few seasons? Guess I'm just leary after coach X was here.

Have ya'll ever thought about what happens if he doesn't end up being that good as our hc? What would we do if he ended up having a dooley-esque 3-4 years after the hire?

I say three years before we can get back to contender status. Assuming anything sooner than that and our expectations are simply unrealistic.
But I do expect to see immediate improvement, after all it's almost impossible to get any worse.

I would say 1st yr 6-6, 2nd 7-5 or 8-4, and 3rd would be 9-3, then the sky is the limit. But I'm not basing that on anything other than the assumption of improvement from year to year and that gruden is THE guy. Our schedule is pretty tough next year for a 1st year coach, so I would forgive a 5-7 if it went down like that

He should be able to take what we have now and have a winning season. We would have won this season if someone could have straightened out the defense. Gruden will get that done and I don't think we'll lose many that we put 40 points on the board.

It took Bama a couple of years, yes. Was their roster better, yes on defense no on offense. UT fans keep comparing UT and Bama, UT ain't Bama and Gruden ain't Saban. When Saban came to Bama Bama had the best instate talent it had in decades, Saban's 1st 2 recruiting classes were dominated by in state talent. UT doesn't have the in state talent to rely on. Sabsn had built college programs before and knew how to do it, Gruden has never even been a HC in college before and has no clue how to do it. Gruden's only HC experience was taking a Super Bowl team and running them into the ground before being fired.

Name recognition alone will do his recruiting at least for a year or two. If he couldn't coach a bit he could win as many SEC games as we have this year.(talking about Gruden)

Well you can expect an instant success.. will they loose a game probably but the possabilities of success are very high..

I am confused....I thought that was what the Dooley Lovers claimed he had been doing for the past 3 seasons....so now we need 3 more years? WTF...we were supposed to be waiting on Dooley for 6 years?
