basketball season?
Asking for a friend.
What were you expecting, really? Anyone pretending we had a real shot outside of "well, that's why they play the games" was being grossly optimistic. I can't believe the line was only -9.5. That always seemed pretty generous based on all the ?s surrounding Tennessee's offense, which as it turns out, wasn't the biggest of our worries.

The people predicting an 8 win (or better 😳) season are seriously misguided about the type of rebuild this program is in for.

To be fair, the defense did look really bad today. I knew we weren't good.... but they were really bad the entire 2nd half.

Agreed.

I predicted an 7-5 - 8-4 record.

But no way was I expecting an instant fix resulting in an SEC Title.

If we’re freaking out now, then I dread the next few years.

I did not expect to win but did expect to get back to hard nosed defensive football. Kind of like those Vandy teams with no talent that always gave us fits on game day. No skill but organized, communicating and playing team football. They did little of that and played soft IMO.

We were expecting this team to play like they give a damn.

If you think they didn't care, you have some growing up to do. Of course, I've seen you post here a lot, so I'm not shocked by any asinine thing you say. You're pretty much known for being overly emotional

If the internet Tennessee fans are putting Coach Pruitt on the hotseat now they are truly delusional and absolutely clueless. If Tennessee canned Coach Pruitt in year two or three they wouldn't be able to hire a replacement head coach outside D3,NAIA or the High School ranks.

You an Wylo should hang together.....

New coaches, new defense and players that were not coached up at all the last 4 years. Not sure what you expected to see today but you are acting your typical self so it's really no surprise.....I suggest you come back in 6 weeks and see the improvement...

I predicted 38-17 WVU before the game, so I thought my expectations were fairly reasonable, but this game was even worse than I expected, especially the defense. They were slow and extremely out of place. I was thinking that this was a 5-6 win team before the season, but I'm thinking 3-4 wins is much more realistic now.

i SUGGEST YOU FRIEND FIND ANOTHER TEAM TO PULL FOR....
It was meant more as a joke, damn. I didn't expect a win yesterday but that was laughable. I'm giving CJP 2 years at least but I am tired of "waiting until next year" over and over and over.

Two months to basketball a long enough time for us to get totally disgusted with football for another season. Evidently it seems these Jones players just don't have what it take to play in the big time. It could be the coaching staff sure but most of those guys have been successful in many other places so we'll see if this team gets better. I no longer see 6 wins every SEC game is either a tossup or a loss. We should win the three non-conference games. Pruitt gets his three four years like everybody else not his players has to have time to recruit and develop.

Agreed. I don't see 6 wins left on this schedule; not after yesterday. The 3 cupcakes hopefully and maybe UK and/or Vandy although Vandy's QB will probably torch us. Just wait until the meltdown on this board after Mizzou torches us with Dooley calling the plays.

At the worst this game should have been a 33-21 game. I was actually optimistic our kids would perform better on defense than they did. Our highly rated players once again disappeared when the lights came on, Paul Bain a walkon, had as good a performance as any of his on scholly peers which is very sad. There were bright spots on offense, JG, Jordan, and receivers all played much better. Kennedy was whooped the first quarter and then he pretty much laid a whooping on his guy the rest of the game which aided Jordan's performance. I said all along I would not predict wins until I saw the product Pruitt put on the field. I've seen it. We're a 4 win team at the worst, likely a 5 win team, and a 6 win team if we get it together and outperform is where my head is.

I think 5-6 wins is probably still a realistic goal. Dropping that to 3-4 based on a loss to a good team in the first game seems a little rash. Your prediction of 38-17 isn't far off from the final score of 40-14 in a game where the last score was mostly window dressing, so I'm struggling to understand how the game was "worse than expected" for you. You almost nailed the final score in your prediction. I will agree the D was disappointing given that is supposedly Pruitt's bread and butter.

I was thinking the same thing. It sounds like he got exactly what he thought
