If he coaches anywhere, it will be in the NFL.

Doubtful... IMO he loves the spotlight a bit too much to become an assistant coach. I can't really see him taking that career path.

And I'll say 7 more years in the NFL barring injuries.

meh dunno, there's a difference between being a great player and being a great coach (look how many major coaches both NFL and college weren't star players)

I mean I think Marino is a great QB also, but I don't think that really makes him a great coach

(Though manning does obsess over the game, I just think there's alot more to it he would need than that)

^ Also true. There's probably only 2-3 guys ever who were great players that went on to be great coaches.

Peyton is the most football smart player in the history of the league. theres not a doubt in my mind he would make a great coach right off the bat.

Yea, he basically made Garcon and Collie into relevant WRs in a span of 1 year. He can definitely teach.

Don't see him as interested in the coaching lifestyle or hours. And the best players often have a tough time coaching players who can't do what they did.

Can anyone name a highly successful player from the NFL in the last 10-15 years that became a coach? Most of them don't want to spend that much time when they are already set financially.

The absolute max will be to 2018. That's 8 more years and gives him 20 years as a QB with the same team, but that will put him at 41 y/o too.

As for coaching, I think Peyton is a different person than other's that try it. He is all about UT Football still and knows his play calling. He's practically the coaching the offense now.

pretty much. The one's that do come back to football are often the Marinos and the Shannon Sharpes and the Bradshaws who go into broadcasting or commentary

And then there are those like Montana who just stay retired i believe

But if the greats end up back in it, they're in the booth

Well Favre is still doing pretty well at 40. Hard to say how long he has the heart to keep going out there. My guess is he will do well as a commentator or color guy after he hangs em up.

which is why I see the more likely scenarios of peytons post playing career as

1)color commentator / gameday studio analyst
2)endless commercials

and honestly i could see him just doing nothing like Joe Montana before he would end up coaching

I'd say he's looking to cement himself in the record books. Right now he would need 5 seasons (on his current pace) to break every significant record (completions, TDs, yards) for QBs. He needs 6 seasons right now to break Favre's consecutive games streak. Obviously, if Favre plays longer, this may change. If he's still playing at a high level and healthy, I don't see Peyton retiring anytime soon.

Peyton's going to be playing for a long time. The best way he can help UT is to get busy with his wife and start producing future vol quarterbacks. One every 4 years should be sufficient.
