How long should we give Pruitt?

5 tears at least, if Pruitt is perceived as not even been given a chance, things will only get worse. If we give him a reasonable amount of time, let some other programs make ***es of themselves in the meantime, we can turn the page from Pruitt if he's not the guy and have a reasonable chance of getting a good replacement.

We're well beyond 5 tears, Unfrozen. I alone shed more than that, just last weekend.

Haha, just kidding with you, I know what you meant. :)

agreed. and we'll know probalby w/in 3 years. i just don't see fulmer firing him if he gives hime any reason to keep him. go to bowl games, middling around at 6-8 wins etc....and i'm not making predictions here.

jmo.
It's an interesting dynamic. Phil more than likely is on a short run regardless if for no other reason than his age.
If for some reason he has to move on Pruitt (and I'm more confident in his chances than either Dooley or Jones) I dont think hes around to hire to next guy.

I don't either

For me it's all about the momentum. I want to see year over year improvement. It's been so long since we've been worth a damn, I understand that this could take 3-5 years. I would be happy to see something like 5-7, 7-5, 8-4, 9-3, 10+ wins.

We need to let him get a couple recruiting classes in before we even think about parting ways. I cant handle another coaching change. I recently watched a short clip about Dabo when he took over at clemson. He was the wide receivers coach and a nobody but he knew what it took to build a national championship program. It didnt happen overnight but everyone bought into his culture and it paid dividends. I think Pruitt and Dabo Sweeney are somewhat cut from the same clothe. Small town Alabama boys, former Alabama players basically product of the same environment. Pruitt can do it!

I would say give the University Administrators and Athletic Board 2 years and keep Pruitt for 5. They are the reason we are where we are today......bad decisions and non support.....they have no clue...Coaching choices are pathetic plus they low ball.

We'll probably never have a coach run out his contract again. The world has changed.

Used to be the way you're thinking. But some time ago (decades, maybe?) some smart agents started making a compelling case: a coach with less than a couple of years on his contract is disadvantaged recruiting, because they players won't believe he'll be there by the time they're seeing the field.

So contracts started getting extended every time they got within 2-3 years of running out. Extended for another year if the coach is on or near a hot seat, extended for two, three or more years if he's doing well. But always keep the "end of contract" date far enough in the future to reassure recruits.

So, yeah. We're never gonna see a guy play out his full contract again, quite possibly.

Possibly, but if he is headed in the wrong direction or we are going to end up canning him.....why give him an extension? I don't know just growing tired of paying people that are no longer with the University.

Not sure he will be here in 5 years. I don't see Saban coaching 5 years and Pruitt will be on Alabama's short list if he looks good while here.

I think Saban coaches longer than you think. And if they do it how Saban wants I’m sure they hire from within similar to what Oklahoma did with Lincoln Riley whenever he does decide to step down.

If he does well enough to be hired away by Bama, I won't complain, I was saying we don't need to fire him without giving him at least 5 years, barring scandal.

Ok. We've got one quarter in the books on 2018. The next two quarters could be a brutal, humbling experience.

I want CJP to succeed. But I just dont see the improvement (yet) even against really bad teams.
Slow starts.
Low energy.
Line struggles.
Questionable QB switching today.

I bumped this thread rather than starting a new one. At what point do we expect to see CJP field a team who looks prepared and enthusiastic to play a full game?

To tell the truth Pruitt is up against it for the rest of the schedule. OL not quite right. DL better but not quite right. Offense makes good plays followed by a couple of drive killers. Our one and only shutout this season just happened. Unless we win next week look for 2 and 6 first eight games.

Bridge jumping by reservation only... staring next week.

In the next 1-2 years when he gets the players on *his* mentality AND gets his own recruits in. Did you hear what he said in his end game interview? Wasn't pretty despite being a shutout.

He has to reverse the Butch mentality in most of the team (minus the true freshmen that weren't exposed to Butch's "tactics") and that's considering most of these kids are full Butch recruits & mentality. It's not easy changing something that's been ingrained in your mind for a few years.

Old habits are hard to break. Honestly Pruitt has balls even coming to this and deserves time to restart the whole program. Not brick by brick bullcrap; but toughness, gameplay, determination, skill, endurance, PRIDE, etc.

Are you saying CJP needs 1-2 years before we can expect to see a team prepared, excited, and competitive?

Pretty much agree but would like to add these thoughts. 1-Pruitt is likely letting Helton have his way with the offense pretty much except for maybe 4th down 'go for it' type calls. Sure, he has input, but I bet he isn't making every QB switch and such. If he's doing much on offense at this point I hope he's working on the OL as much as he possibly can - that unit obviously needs all the help it can get right now. 2-This team might not ever get its mental game to the level Pruitt would like to see it (or us) due to "Butch Hangover". We'll see. I want CJP to succeed as well. I don't think Gen Neyland and Vince Lombardi combined could make much lemonade out of this situation.

If Pruitt is getting some bashing for a 24 to 0 win come back in four weeks expect the moving van will be parked in front of his house. Were gonna lose three of the next four probably badly don't know about Florida still some hope there. I didn't see that we were overall terrible today. Some bad turnovers and penalties which Pruitt probably saw coming after a bad week of practice. He seems to be having some trouble getting everyone on the same page and it seems to be a lot of the guys that have been here a while rather than the freshmen.

AGREED. The Butchstank is real. 2/3 of the players on the team have been thoroughly brainbutched.

The reality is this: no offense to current players, but the only thing that will really bring us up to an elite level is player turnover. We must find an elite QB, the way the top current programs have, and we need malleable butch-free skulls to work with at just about all positions (save RB).

Don't believe we'll need five years to see we have a football coach-at last. Giving butch five years was stupid, many of us saw early on that butch as never going to be a SEC quality coach, but due to many that (have) had a man crush on the guy, our program went into the toilet, plain and simple. In Fact, many fans would be jumped for criticizing jones, their love of butch cost UT at least two seasons. CP was handed a bigger bag of crap than butch, maybe the worst team (based on last season) than in school history, he has a big hill to climb. This isn't going to be a great season, but in so far as team improvement, and future outlook, CP is going to make this a season to remember. With all that said, if he [CP] starts pulling 'jones's' type calls and starts dedicating team time to 'winners in life' crap, I'll be the first to say, time to go...

What's so idiotic about the thread? I'm not shaming his abilities to head coach or even judging him for the first game. Every coach takes a different amount of time to become successful if they do become that. I'm just curious what everyone else thinks he deserves to make this team great again.
We should give him a lot more than 3 games. At this point I would call it an idiotic thread

One of the reasons I like Pruitt where I never really warmed up to Jones is that PRUITT was doing some bashing over that 24-0 win. Jones tried to spin and excuse poor play like that. Pruitt was highly agitated leaving the field. I doubt the team got a "victory speech" after that game. He'll keep working on weaknesses. When it "clicks"... it will look a lot better.
