How long does the next HC get given what’s happened?

Well everybody wanted to give Pruitt 4 years. With that said the Vol nation will give him about the 1st qt. Of the first game. He might last 2 years.

A top coach should get 5-6 years and some assistant coach should get 3-4 years to prove they are capable of building a team that can compete in the SEC...We better not hire another assistant coach for head coach.

I am in agreement with what most on here have already said. If we get someone who has proven that they can get it done at a major college level, my ulcers might hang on for 6 years if it appears that things are at least trending upward. But if we hire the next so called up and comer or hot coordinator, I just don’t know if I’ll make it through a season.

Meh - for me, I would say it is not as much about time as it is about trajectory. Are you getting better? Is the program and the product on the field improving? If it is, then you get more time. An early plateau, a dip, a reversal of trajectory... all are evaluated. It is not about "Making it". It's about Trajectory. Pruitt's was definitively in the wrong direction.

Can't answer this question without knowing the extent of the sanctions and seeing some results on the field.

They aren't going to trot out someone getting beat 50-0 every game for 3 years.

Someone being competitive with roster shortcomings will get the benefit of the doubt.

Infinity. I have no expectation of success, as we've come to know it, ever again. Mediocrity is our lofty goal.

Let’s allow the admin to hire an AD and coach then let them do their job without fan turmoil for at least three yrs.

Most SEC schools have rabid fans but i heard, yet again today on Sirrius FM, that UT is known for having a difficult fan base which is why some coaches turned down the job in 2017. Idk if that’s true but we need to turn down the volume and give the next coach at least three years. Idk if it will help -lol.

I agree it will take longer than three yrs. My point was that the UT faithful should just let the next AD and coach do their jobs without the fans commenting on lack of success the next three yrs.

Fans getting upset and screaming for change three yrs from now will help our cause most likely, hasn’t the past 10 yrs.

Well, the fans getting upset and screaming and yelling isn't going to stop. But, maybe the call for heads to roll, will be much less noticeable?

Expectations should probably be based on the extent of the penalties and amount of players lost/gained in the transfer portal. This thought is also based on a new HC being hired instead of Interim HC Steele coaching the 2021 season (If Steele is the HC, I'll move everything back a year).

I'm going out on a limb and giving the new HC the 2021 and 2022 seasons without unreasonable expectations (outside of giving 100% effort which is actually not unreasonable). The development process by the new staff should be established by the 2023 season, so I will hope for reasonable improvement beginning at that point. I'm not talking about championships, more like movement in the right direction and building a program the right way.

This Pruitt mess is because of unrealistic fan expectations. Pruitt saw what happened to Butch Jones, canned after one bad year. Jones had two consecutive 9 win seasons and three consecutive bowl wins. But all it took was one bad year to get canned.

Pruitt knew he had to win fast because Tennessee fans, like Nebraska fans are living in the decades past.

It takes time to build a program. Look around at a lot of successful coaches turning programs around. That 5th year is often a step back, for whatever reason.

But Tennessee fans would rather keep the turnstile of coaches always rotating. And now Tennessee is set back for years. Enjoy fighting Vandy for 6th in the East for the next 5-6 years.

With the current situation Kevin Steele should probably be the guy next year. Not sure it matters, the problem isn't the head coach at this point. This job is more than likely toxic to most right now.

I think we end up like usc when lane went and ole miss after freeze. Steele is interim in 21. More than likely named permanent in the fall he rides out the sanctions and we end up hiring another guy then. Get ready bc it may be another 8 to 10 yrs before we do much far as winning. This program is a disaster
