How likely is war with NK?

I think once they have their fully functional icbm/nuke warhead they’ll take a step back. They’re posturing and acting aggressively so we don’t swoop in and stop them before they have the capability.

I was briefed in BCT that all the experts think a jungle war is next. New army uniforms developed for it and a new jungle training school in Hawaii is what I was told.

I agree with the first part of this. I think KJU just wants to keep the US at bay so he can keep his power

Jung-un wants a credible nuclear threat to the U.S. in order to deter an attack. They have been pursuing this for years. If you're going to blame Trump for this, you might as well blame him for the sinking of Titanic as well.

There will be no war. One, the American people and congress don't want it and I'm not convinced Trump does either. More important, South Korea, who would bear the brunt of the fallout from war with the north, does not want war.

I will add that, ANY decision to militarily strike NK MUST go through South Korea and the U.S. congress for the simple reason that any strike, no matter how limited, could very well result in all-out war. Thus, we must be prepared to commit to all-out war with the north if we're going to hit NK. We're not willing to cash that check and neither is South Korea.

Short of assassinating Jung-un, I believe the best chance of removing him and his nukes is through China. How do we compel China to act? I believe it could be done by the U.S., South Korea and Japan PRIVATELY informing China that, unless Jung-un and his nukes are GONE, SK and Japan will begin building their own nuclear weapons stockpile. As well, they should inform China that, once they have their nukes and IF North Korea were to hit SK/Japan/U.S. with a nuke(s), that the aforementioned would retaliate with nuclear weapons against both NK AND China. If China expects SK, Japan, USA, etc. to live with a nuclear NK, then they can expect to live with a nuclear SK and Japan. Or, they can take action to remove Jung-un and his nukes, replace him with someone who won't build nukes, and everyone lives on as before.

My God a war with North Korea? It wouldnt last long enough to be a war. Maybe a small scuffle.

Dude, 25 million residents in Seoul. Thousands of NK artillery pieces. You do the math. 10s to 100s of thousands dead. Then... What if KJU is convinced he's doomed? Has nothing to lose by firing his nukes. We won't intercept them all.

So here's my layman's solution to the NK crisis:

Mobilize joint troops in the countryside of SK.

Evacuate Seoul and all major cities as quickly as possible. Disperse population away from border as far as possible.

Use spy network within NK to identify probable KJU location.

Multiple locations will likely result. Most will likely be in reinforced bunkers immune to most conventional bombs.

Launch simultaneous attacks:
One. Bunker buster bombing of all key command and control centers and probable KJU hideouts.
Two. CIA delivery of suitcases of cash to potentially receptive generals.
Three. Air campaign targeting artillery, mobile launchers, hardened nuclear weapon storage locations.
Four. Amass nearshore Aegis fleet and other anti ballistic platforms.
Five. Mobilize overwhelming number of patriot missile batteries near border.
Six. Scramble dozens of round the clock fighter jets whose sole purpose is to intercept any missiles launched by NK.
Seven. Conduct special ops syops to create confusion and spread the word that KJU has been killed.
Eight. Jam all mass communications.
Nine. Launch computer viral attacks to disable command and control and/or harm missile system.
Ten. Deploy our secret laser defense weapons.

I doubt we would actual kill KJU initially, but if we were able to isolate him from significant communication, and successfully bribe a fair number of generals, I think we might be able to reduce the number of successful nuke bomb detonations and casualties to a reasonably "acceptable" number.

Nothing will happen during Trump's tenure, but our relationship with NK will be destabilized so that the next pres., likely a Dem, will be forced to enter a war there, unless there are extenuating circumstances.

So we're safe until at least 2025.

You really need to grow a pair and use your brain for something besides a hat rack.

I will have 40 hours in Seoul later this month. I'll report back on what I can find out about how locals view this piece of human excrement.

Good thing I went to a new airplane. My wife hates it, but I am going to be there quite a bit.
