Even when we were short-handed you could argue that we were still a more talented team than Vandy.
Face it, Stallings did more with less and that's why he won.
I completely agree. That doesn't change the fact that his being forced to play with a shorthanded roster was a perfect example of reaping what you sew.
I agree that Stallings deserved the award. But your claim that he did more with less makes it sound like you are saying Vanderbilt does not have much talent. You obviously have not actually paid attention to Vandy this year. Beal is a great player. Taylor is a highly thought up NBA prospect. Ogilvy has shortcomings for sure, but he is a very good SEC post player. The reserves on the frontline have size and athleticism. Jenkins is a great shooter. Very talented team.
:good!: I hear you. Really people should stop and think where Tennessee basketball was before Pearl and where it is now. This was and i guess to a degree still is a football school, although the little weasel in the AD's office seems to be hell bent on changing that. Pearl does bring in questionable character guys and player development hasn't been that good. Our half court game has been a joke for most of Bruce's tenure. Really though anyone thinking that he was going to turn this into the next UNC in his tenure, well i'd have laughed in your face and still would. It is what it is and he's done what i would consider a pretty good job here.Posters on this board have some serious Bias-based issues in regards to Pearl. It gets ridiculous.
Let me first say - I am not a Pearl-Homer. I think he does a crappy job of locating players with good character. His Development sometimes is pitiful to say the least and his tourney resume needs to improve.
However - to say he shouldn't even be mentioned as a COY candidate because he is "reaping what he sews" is ludicrous. Did he recruite those players? Yup. Sure did. Did he know they were going to act so stupidly on January 1? Highly doubtful although he couldn't be too surprised since he knew their character. But we are talking about COACH of the year. Not FATHER FIGURE of the year.
Stallings also reaps what he sews. Everyone is making a case for him because he doesn't have the talent of a Tennessee or Kentucky. Whose fault is that? He recruits what he has. So does Pearl. Cal does as well, with a little help of course.
The effort some put forth on this board to bash or downplay the program and its coach is astonishing.
For the record - Good Job Stallings! I think he deserved it. I hope Cal never wins anything.
The other SEC coaches don't like Pearl because he's generally been beating up on all of them for the past five years. He did a better job of coaching this year than Stallings or Calipari, but because Vandy beat the Vols twice they felt that gave them an excuse to award someone other than Bruce.
If is very clear that the coaches don't like Cal. With the turn around at KY, he was clearly the choice for coach of the year. Stallings and Pearl did a good job, but he immediately returned KY to an elite program.
