How has Devrin Young been doing at practice

Devrin will probably be used like the Saints use Sproles IMO. He's a "specialty" guy.

And yeah we all wanted more down the feild, and I'm definitely not an OC, but seems that we would mix in some WR and RB screens with it, esp. with DaRick, Neal, and now Young. But who knows, maybe they've tried that stuff in practice and the players are not executing screens well enough to be in the game plans.

You don't have to be in shotgun to run a screen. I think the screen would have kept the lbs off Bray on the blitz.

I think we'll prolly try a couple screens next week. Prolly one of the reasons devrin has been working with the backs.

Hopefully Fugate gets some looks in the screen. I'd like to see another Luke Stocker type of hit on a DB (Kentucky game last year... might have been my favorite play).

Maybe this is a good time to ask since I can't start a thread. Is anyone concerned with the amount of balls Bray forced in the Florida game? Don't get me wrong I love the guy and think he's a phenomenal QB, but he was throwing some balls that could easily have been intercepted and probably should have been. I know Stone was bowling the football to him, but on a lot of those plays he still had enough time to make some better decisions throwing.

At that point in the game all we could do is throw the ball. So I think he did the best he could with what was available to win.

I was thinking the same thing Saturday. Someone on here made a good point though about the snapping issue. If you run a screen and you mess up a snap either its a turnover or Bray is getting killed... I agree though. If we can get this snap issue down, then our offense will look a lot better.

Florida's front seven, especially the DL and DE's were much too quick and fast to consistently set up the screen...our wideouts dont block well enough yet to be running many screens and throwing in the snapping issue...and no screens...

We just got schooled in how to use a small lightning fast guy so I expect DY to have a break-out performance.

GO VOLS!!

Ran a screen against montana and cincy. I think we would of ran a screen if the situation called for it. I kinda think it is silly people are telling channey when to throw a screen pass. I remember not too long ago people complained that we only threw screens and dinks and dunks, and we never threw the ball down field. Now..... bah

When Sanders and Clawson were here everyone was so tired of screen plays they couldn't wait to see us throw the ball down field 30 times per game. Now we are doing that, and all I hear is how we need more screens.

Not more screens instead of downfield throws; more screens instead of lineup in the I and run straight up the middle.

Didn't realize we had so many proven OC's on this site.

It's a discussion board for goodness sakes. People give opinions.

I remember a small running back that played for Florida. Percy Harvin. He sure had some good days against us. Devin is very elusive and has plenty of speed. I think Bray will be able to utilize his abilities on short quick passes to get him open. Delvin is a little smaller than Percy but Florida took him for his elusive abilities and he sure could make the defense look slow with his moves. I would like to see Delvin play some next week so we can get a better feel for his abilities.

Not concerned at all.

No one is asking Chaney to bring the Clawfense back to Tennessee but he's going to have to do something to keep defenses honest if we continue to be unsuccessful running the ball. Our offense is completely one-dimensional right now.

A well ran screen called at the right time is the most low-risk/high-reward play in football.. We can run 5 screens and still throw the ball down field 30 times per game.

Yeah im wondering the same thing.I kept waiting for one in the Fla game but they must of left that part of the playbook in knoxville

One thing the other defenses know whenever Devrin comes in and lines up in the backfield is that he did not come in to block -- he will either be a runner or go out to catch a screen.
