How good is Fulmer at contracts?

That's the death knell here.

I know I have a thread about making coaches changes but its just not gonna happen.

These guys are all about getting paid and somehow think they are in the right.

I sometimes wonder if Fulmer actually held us back in the 90s and if major or someone else would have actually won just as much or more. PHIL clearly got owned by every great coach he faced such as Spurrier or Osborne.

Could you fire him then offer him a dc position for the same money and period. At least that would keep anyone else from getting him. Nobody is going to pay him 3.whatever million per year as a dc

I cant even count the number of times it has been clearly stated on this board,including actual copies of the contract language, Pruitt does NOT have a mitigation clause/statement in HIS contract.

Their hires were definitely on purpose. Were they 1st choice? I don’t think so.

Dooley got hired because of his name.

Jones got hired because we crossed our fingers in hopes he could do the job. Other than being too conservative and then who knows what happened to the locker room, he was close.

JP was hired because of his success as a football coach. As a DC he was successful. As a HC, not so much. Of all the issues he is dealing with what stands out the most to me is QB issues. JG seems to give all but is missing the it factor. Other QBs were given chances to be the guy and for one reason or another they weren’t able to take the job. I would have liked this year to be more like the winning streak from last year. Prep the other QBs to start and bring in JG if they struggle too much to see if he could pull out a win. He seemed to do so much better off the bench.

It’s a QB driven game and our QB play hasn’t been good enough. I would like to see some other guys get the start and go from there.

The part I bolded was, " There are a ton of folks that would coach at UT for way less. "

That may be true for a coordinator looking for their first HC gig, or a mid-major looking for a P5 opp. That is what UT has hired the last 3 hires. No way is that what UT needs to compete in the SEC. or what UT set their initial sights on early in the coaching searches, IMO. If that was their goal, then UT is exactly where it deserves to be!

UT may catch lightning in a bottle in a few years (no way Pruitt is going anywhere soon) like they did with RIck Barnes in basketball. An "older" experienced coach that has had success that needs a destination. Maybe a Les Miles type?

Most ADs suck at contracts and get their lunch eaten by agents.

The contracts literally are the agents life blood so they are damn good at them and make sure they favor the coach or player. This helps with future clients as free publicity.

Ads are playing with house money. They care but not as much as the agent. Winning is more important to a good AD so they leverage more on getting the guy they believe in.

The agent doesn't care at all about winninh. He wants max dollar in and out on the contract.

Therefore the AD is always coming in from a weaker position than the agent.

But fulmer is a moron.

He gave JP a new contract when it wast remotely needed and JP had no real leverage yet to ask for one. He goofed.
