SEC position rankings: Receivers - College Football Nation Blog - ESPN

This was written by Chris S-low. He has us ranked 8th in the SEC as far as WR's go. I know we will be pretty bad this year, but to think that we will only be better than VANDY, MISS ST., OLE' MISS, and KEN. is troubling. I hate having a bad football team. I remember a few years back, in Fulmer's last few years, there were a few games,(quite a few) that I really wished my TV went out or I had sold my tickets. Anyone else feel the same way?

Besides Moore and Jones, Teague also. That's all they have to go on. We signed a talented group but they haven't seen the field yet. As far as how far has Tennessee fallen, the answer is somewhere near the bottom half of the SEC.

These preview blog posts mean nothing. For all we know Rogers could end up being AJ Grenn Version 2.0. Add a Hunter and Milton to the mix and we are loaded at receiver. Low can't exactly project what freshman are going to do.

Low is writing on production value. He doesn't think we will produce much this year due to our OL and QB inexperience. I wouldn't look to much into his articles. The SEC has great talent at a lot of different positions(besides QB), so it is not surprising to see us ranked behind some other teams. Our recievers can hold their own against most of those other teams ranked ahead of us.

I can agree with most of what he said...but it seems that Florida should be ranked 8 and we should be 7...just based on his analysis.

Fulmer took the UT football program into a death spiral and crashed it into the ground. No ifs ands or buts. Too many influential boosters had a say over the direction of the program and they put their own private business concerns over the well-being of the UT football program.

A good rule to follow is that if Chris Low writes it than don't pay attention to it.

Yes, we have fallen. Florida has taken their National Championship and built great teams around the Championship with good players coming in year after year. When the Vols won their Championship, Fulmer sat on his but and did not keep building good teams. The Vols have fallen and all the 5* and 4* players want to go to other schools. I do believe Dooley will bring us back but it is going to take time to come out of this hole that God (Fulmer..as many think he is God) dug for us.

with all these preseason rankings, I say we dont play this season. We obviously have no chance to beat anyone, even UT MArtin. If the press says we will suck, then we will surely will.

Don't worry about it. Look at UF. #7 in the WR polls. Do you think UF is middle of the pack? I don't think so...

I kinda' think he's an idiot anyway. I sure hope that Dooley can do something about our status as a underachieving program. UT will always be a tough place to come and coach, but we should always but in the top 10.

I have no inside knowledge so I am not disagreeing with your post. I am just curious, what were the "private business concerns" that boosters placed over the football program? How did Fulmer benefit these guys "private business concerns"? I know he is close with many boosters but that doesn't mean he benefited their "private business concerns".

Being a guest speaker, popping in for appearances at fundraisers etc.

I don't think it was nearly as big a deal as the poster you quoted made it out to be though.

Fulmer played the boosters up.

Contradict yourself much? If it will "always be a tough place to come coach" then why would you expect us to "always (be) in the top 10"?

No doubt about that one my friend. My point was it was his relationship with them that kept them on his side, not because he was in some way lining their pockets.

Just based on our starting unit that is back from last yr we would be in the top 3rd. Chris Low has us ranked dead last at qb and 11th at rb. Im assuming he basing those off past production but that would mean our recievers would have to be higher. Hes a moron

Dead on and yeah he played them up. It's why he stuck around far too long. Long enough that were seeing the fruits of his prolonged stay. He was dug in like a tick and very hard to remove.

WR is the one position we should definitely be ranked higher in....I can see RB and QB being low but I think our WR are a lot better than Low is giving credit for

I agree. We lack the superstar wideout some teams have, but two experienced senior WRs, Stocker plus all the freshmen should put us at least over UF. Honestly, I'm not surprised considering who wrote it though.

That not contradicting, it is a tough place to recruit, but we should still be in the top 10 around the end of the year. We can't lay back and say, oh well, we live on an island, so lets just let our FB program go to dust. If there aren't any expectations, then why even bother?

Maybe he's ranked us so low due to the lack of experience on the OL. If the QB's are getting sacked left and right, the WR's won't have the opportunity to be any better than 8th.

Why should we be in the top 10 every year?

Since 1934 when the AP poll was started we have finished in the Top Ten 23 times. There have been 74 AP Football polls (they skipped a year in 1935). We have been in the Top Ten in 31% of those polls.

I'd say that would be a little more realistic expectation. If Dooley can have us in the Top Ten 3 times over the next ten years we should all be very happy.
