How does dumb A@# saban or bobby bowden form a tree? What exactly are they doing for their assistants? And how come Fulmer doesn't have one. I don't think spurrier has one either.

I believe they it's when their assistants become head coaches. That's basically it to my knowledge.

Yep those two sure are dumb asses. The first has 4 titles. The other won one and there was no football program at FSU before he got there. Dumb indeed

Fulmer definitely has a coaching tree, its just not a very big one. That can probably be attributed to the loyalty of the staff during that run...it seems like RS and the Chief were here for forever.

Bob Stoops, Charlie Strong and 1 or 2 others might disagree.

You got a point. But what exactly are they doing for them? Did they develop them or just the fact that they were already good and got exposure from spurrier?

When I first heard the term and when I have found it used the most was in reference to Bill Walsh.

That coaching tree is huge

Johnny Major's coaching tree is unbelievable!

Word was, back in Johnny's day, if you could keep your sanity for two years serving on JM's staff, you could write your own ticket to a HC job. Johnny was awfully tough on his assistants. That experience is why Fulmer chose the opposite: staff stability resulting in a family atmosphere.

The number of legacy players (connected to Fulmer's era) wearing the orange today may be Fulmer's ultimate legacy.

How do basketball coaches start their coaching tree? Fill the arena with rooters and earn top seeds in the postseason.

  :bad:

I remember reading years ago that FSU's football team played in many away homecoming games in the years before Bowden arrived. They were indeed cupcakes.
