I will say, however, that if you truly do believe this (and are not just trolling for "likes," ****s, or giggles), then your understanding of history and even the contemporary moment is far more simplistic than mine. But to each his own.

Well, like Abraham Lincoln once said- "America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves."

I believe this is the case, and I'd imagine it being sometime within the next 100 years due to a civil war (brought about by extreme ideological differences) or a revolt against the government, something along those lines.

I stated explicitly in my OP that I understand Slate and Levin's position as left-leaning sources. I still found the article interesting and useful. What's your point?

If America was a businesses which party would you choose to run it?

It's impossible to make everyone happy, it will never happen. 99% of the country shouldn't have to change to make 1% happy. 0% should have their tax dollars used to support anyone other than themselves & the basic necessities.

I don't disagree with your thoughts on the distribution of tax funds , but I also don't believe that the majority should ever be allowed to take away the rights of the minority. I think that's where you and I disagree.

And my remark about conservatives destroying the country would be primarily related to the education system.

It's not entirely the education system. For the most part it's the kids & the parents. You can't force them to do anything when you're gonna turn around & keep them up. I guess we disagree on what "rights" are too. Everybody isn't entitled to everything. Just a fact.

I think we can find common ground on a few "rights" but not all. I don't see education through high school as a right. If you can't meet the basic disciplinary standards, then you don't deserve to be there. Sadly, that's not how it is currently. The worse of the worse are there everyday, because their probation officers won't let them miss. The biggest issue with education is the IEP, but that's for another day.

I don't believe people are entitled to tangible things (cell phones for example), but to be able to marry whoever they please I do believe they deserve. Or to smoke a joint after a long day of work.

Department of education was created by Reagan, and now federal regulation is destroying the system.
