How do you slow this down?

Yes Oregon runs a high tempo offense and has some fast athletic players but playing against a team with talent in front of over 100K fans is a lot different than playing at home against a terrible New Mexico team. I think it is going to be a lot closer than many people think. I am actually a bit nervous for this game. Unfortunately for the Ducks if they win no biggie they were supposed to win if they lose it will be a bit of a big deal whereas it is the opposite for Tennessee I believe. Looking ahead whoever loses this game I think they still end up having a good season and Tennessee regardless of the outcome will be a force again soon in the SEC.

watching this.... they run ALOT of screen passes....that scares me bc we have fast dlineman and we always rush to the ball.. and what i mean by that is i hope we dont overcommit and miss contain with these guys cuz they have ALOT of speed..

Don't give Oregon that much credit. New Mexico is terrible. The McNairs would run through them too. They were 1-11 last year.

On a side note, their offensive coordinator is named Darrell Dickey. Not that Darryl Dickey, but I did a double take nonetheless.

Emphasize ball control, run, short passes, convert short yardage third downs at a high cut.

We'd better hope our talent at DT is a lot better than we think it is though. If Oregon's O-line can handle themselves (which may or may not be the case) we may be in for a long day. James and Barner can both get a lot of yards in a hurry, they will probably be the fastest two backs we face on offense all season.

Florida has a guy named Demps I believe.

YouTube - Jeff Demps at Florida Relays

Seriously, this isn't Fulmers Vols anymore. I think the coaches are pretty good and Wilcox shut them down last year, imagine what he can do with our D. I am not worried, we may lose, but I have faith in these coaches that the team will be ready.

You may want to email Wilcox and give him some ideas, I am sure he hasn't thought about this yet.

Just a little reminder:

'Boise State bookended the season with two of its most impressive victories, clamping down on Pac-10 Conference champion Oregon 19-8 to start the year and then closing with the 17-10 triumph over previously undefeated TCU at the Fiesta Bowl.'

So he managed to beat two teams that are in the hunt for the National Champioship this year...

Just curious, how long are we going to pretend like we all think the OP is actually a Tennessee fan?

Confuse the hell out of them so they never know where the pressure is coming from. Which is Wilcox's forte.

screens,screens,screens,

Stop the quick passes and we win IMO

easier said then done though

There is nothing like a meeting with J Smith or A Johnson right when you catch that screen....they are fast but little...can they take a pounding IF you get there fast enough that is....but they are dam good...for sure...:hi:

That would be like advising a field general to follow Sun Tzu's rules and he will win the battle.

Hey, if you can manage to dowse the middle of the field in oil, lure them to the 40 yard line, and set it on fire, I bet we would win.

don't stop them, just contain them. Try not to give up huge plays, but make them go 15 plays, 85 yds, see if they can be patient.

Classy post. I think it will be real close. I thought we would win, but I am concerned about our QB play. I think the inexperience there might hurt us. Either way I expect it to be close, and since I am a major Vol homer I truly believe we win. Either way the ducks will be quacking the whole plane ride home about the atmosphere at King Neyland. If you go to the game, enjoy yourself.

The McNairs barley found any running room against the Vols Vanilla D.

i really hope our offense opens it up alot more. im sure they were doing the K.I.S.S principle last night and didnt want to show oregon to much on tape

i wouldn't overanalyze it. unm's defense is absolutely garbage, and the video furthermore proves that. i'm not saying one way or another on how much success oregon has running the ball against us, but he shouldn't consistently have huge rushing lanes like he did in that vid.
