How do you rate Lofton to Tony White or Houston?

Better shooter than White but not near the quickness to penetrate. Houston probably as good of a shooter, plus Houston is longer and more athletic

Who is Tony White? I've heard of the ball hogging Tony Harris.

Better than TW.Houston's a proven pro.Houston had no help, not even a coach at UT.Houston has shown his abilities in the NBA, Lofton hasn't even been drafted yet.He has a long way to go to catch up with AH IMO.

Tony White used to be my favorite Vol. He played for the Bulls and the New York Knicks for a short period in the NBA. I think he had a total of 43 points in his career as a Knick in 10 or 15 games.

Houston is better than White or Lofton. Houston was just a bigger presence. I don't think Lofton will make it far in NBA mainly because of his defense.

Why do you think Tony White didn't make it in the NBA? At UT he was a scorin phenom, he could shoot the lights out, then he went to the NBA and just disappeared.

For a little guy (6'2") he could get up too and was quick. Very surprised he didn't have an NBA career.

Tony White... aka "The Wizard".... Former Vol who led the SEC in scoring 2 years (22.2 pppg in 1986 -24.5 ppg in 1987). He also hung 51 points on Auburn.

article by Marvin West

He was drafted in the 2nd round of the NBA draft by the Chicago Bulls. Appeared in 49 NBA games for 3 different teams, averaging 5.3 points per game. "...and did a decade or more of pro basketball in such exotic places as Belgium, Greece, France and Spain."

He was a member of Team USA (Tournament of the Americas) in 1995.

FYI - his son plays for the College of Charleston in the Southern Conference.

Tony White Jr. had 18 points 7 assists 5 rebounds and 4 steals in one of his games this year as a freshmen. So much for red shirting him.

Tennessee had not even heard of Tony White until an Army recruiter based in Charlotte, Sam Reavis, a basket ball junkie who watched prep games almost every night, called Vol assistant Jack Fertig with a tip about the unclaimed talent. Sam was trying to help Tony get discovered before it was too late.

Tony White needed all the help he could get. He remembers wondering why recruiters couldn’t find Independence High School. He thought he could play but there was nobody to second the motion. Dean Smith suggested White consider prep school.

North Carolina-Wilmington showed some interest.

Western Carolina carefully considered White and signed somebody else.

White recalls sitting at home, waiting for the phone to ring, wondering what the heck he had done wrong.

Substitute names and locations and you have....Chris Lofton.

Tony White and Dyron Nix were my favorite all-time vol basketball players and as far as Loton, I dont think anybody plays defense in the NBA anymore.

Houston was definitely more of a whole package guy - the best of the three.

I like Lofton and White. Both can/could get hot and take over a game. White was a little more dynamic.

Tony White was my favorite. You could count on 20 pts everynight from him and he could create shots.

Houston obviously had the most talent but I don't know what it is for sure that makes me disliked him. Maybe it was the teams were so poor or he would have off nights or didn't seem to play defense (except for the blocked shot on Todd Day)

Lofton is a set-shooter. He had a great game the other night but has been inconsistent this season. I hope he isn't just a "home-gym" player this year. The media keeps calling him a great shooter but I don't think he's earned that label yet.

Admittedly, I'm hard to please.

I think Lofton shoots even BETTER with someone in his face and drifting. IMO

I brought this up last year but do you all remember the "bone"?

I think the team found it in the lockerroom or something but I still remember Tony White talking about the "bone" like it was their goodluck charm.

that's his name. In these scorer discussions, I am always trying to remember his name.

With a 3-point shot, and without Devoe as coach, he would have won us some ncaa games for sure. When he got hot at the end of a game, just forget it! You could just hold him out till the last 10 minutes. Then, it was lights out from downtown.:dance2:
