i don't know about the scale or anything, but i was watching sports science the other night and they actually put this to the test........does an aggressive, demanding coach get more out of players than a coach that uses more positive reinforcement......
and the winner.......the aggressive coach.
they had some great stats. they used Bobby Knight and Coach K as examples, i'll let you guess which one was in which category. in pressure situations.....for this study they used f/t % and games decided by 3 pts or less as the data........Bobby Knights teams have a 10% better performance from the stripe and a 20% better w/l performance in games decided by 3 pts or less.
pretty cool.......they also did a live demonstration with a kid shooting f/t's, one coach all over him about his technique, attitude...really challenging the kid...the other coach being very encouraging and understanding.....now this was all happening while the kid was shooting......when the kid was with the aggressive coach, he made 80% from the stripe. with the less agressive coach.....he only made 70%.
pretty interesting stuff.
