How do you feel about next year's team?

Definately a tourney team next year. As far as Martin goes, he had about the same success this year as Cal...only with less "talent". No shocker they lost in the NIT since the loss to Bama stripped the soul from them. We will be back. GBO!

Those wanting Cuonzo gone better just sit back and relax. Cuonzo has at least two more years left. My prediction is the team finish with a record of about 22-8 regular season. Be rank about 20ish. Get 5 seed in the big dance. Win the first game and lose the second game. This will insure him another year. 2014/15 will be his make it or break it year as he'll have to do it with his own roster and be replacing Maymon, Stokes, Golden, and McRea.

Martin wants and looks like he's going to land Darius Thompson, solid PG from middle Tennessee.

With the addition of Thompson this is definitely a sweet 16 team, if Hubbs matches the hype, mcrae and stokes return and Maymon comes back close to 100%...the team has as much talent+experience as any team in the country IMO.

This team got beat by Mercer at home in the NIT.

Got beat at home by a 1 and 9 AP team. Martin blows.

As of now, this is pretty much on par with my prediction as well. Anything less than this and it'll be hard not to be disappointed. I'd say a 7-seed is the lowest I'll accept next year.

I think he'll have Stokes back. I've said all along I thought Stokes was a 4 year player.

If we have a good year next year 14-15 will be fine...if we struggle and have to make a change 14-15 is likely gonna be rough.

I seriously don't think Cuonzo will be fired after next season even if we have a less than spectacular year. I think he's got at least two more years. That's if the wheels don't come completely off and we have a worse season than this year. If he has the team as a bubble team next year, he'll get another year.

Hart does not want to have to replace another coach. Attendance will play a major role here too. Our attendance figures are still very respectable. Next year should be even better given the anticipation of having the best team we've had here in a while. Most of these coaching changes come down to money. All conjecture on my part though.

I agree with that actually completely. A missed tourney next year, but retaining Zo could definitely result in an ugly 14-15 season...next year is very important for the program IMO. We are in on a lot of very talented guys, having a good year would definitely help land some of them.

I was under the impression Hubbs was a knock down shooter. Am I incorrect?

Scout.com Player Evaluation:

Ballhandling

He's not going to hit 50% out there, but he'll slash, draw fouls and probably hit between 32% and 35% on 3s. It's the Kemba Walker (or Trae Golden) type guy, only bigger.

I'm with you on Thompson, and of course, Maymon. Plugging Hubbs (IF...as you rightly say) into the vacated McBee spot should add 3 wins immediately. However, I would've been more inclined to say sweet 16 potential if we hadn't lost Nichols. Still don't like our depth inside.

But more known for his athleticism, right? I've heard a lot of comparisons to D. Wade.

Yeah from everything that I've watched he should be going to the bucket every chance he gets. Hopefully he's Hopson with more consistency.

The one thing that makes me feel better about our lack of post depth is that we showed 4 guard this year...and we will be better equipped next year to do it.

Golden/ Thompson
Hubbs/ Moore
McRae/ Q
Richardson/ Davis
Stokes/ Maymon

There's been some talk about it and looking at how athletic they'll be if they go 4 guard I hope we will see it...they're possibly gonna adapt some pressing/trapping schemes, there's a ton I athleticism and length at our disposal to do that.

I'm not worried about next year's team it's the 2014/2015 that worries me.

That 2014 recruiting class is going to set his fate here at UT. He's got to get a top 10 recruiting class. He's going to possibly lose four starters.

While I think the uy is still out on CCM , especially his ability to make adjustments in game, I think we all need to realize he has a 2nd place SEC finish (last year) and a 5th place finish this year (after losing his best player before the season). As long as he can recruit, I think CCM will be a good coach for us. Already has brought in 2- 5* players which is more than Pearl. Biggest problem with recruiting seems to be alot of "wasted" scholarships on players like Edwards, Makanjoula, and Miller.

I disagree. I think he gets it next year and starts playing consistent basketball. JMO.

If stokes and Hubbs return its not near as bad a scenario as many are envisioning.

You'd have...(assuming Thompson)

Thompson
Hubbs/ Moore
Richardson/ Q
Davis/ Reese
Stokes/ Yemi

And 4 available scholarships

Stokes is gone after 2014. He's just going to get better. That's my opinion. I think he'll be UT's best player next year with a healthy Maymon.

I also don't think Reese is going to be here. Remember, UT still has to get rid of someone if Thompson comes. Looks like you believe that is going to be Landry.

It depends on what stokes wants for a projection, he may go this year...he would get a chance with someone but is that all he's looking for? Next years draft is going to be LOADED, one of the strongest drafts in years it's projected to be. So that goes into our favor, he'd have to have an absolute monster year and show huge strides to get a first round grade next year IMO.

And yea I'm going with Landry being the casualty for Thompson. That's speculation on my part, but with Rob Lewis' comments on it that's my guess as well. Someone else (maybe Reese) may also be out with the news on Dre Mathieu, who knows.

So, we'd take Mathieu and Thompson, grayshirt Landry (or he goes prep/JUCO), and Thompson would be the two guard? Eh, I don't like that. I'd rather take one of Mathieu/Thompson if Landry doesn't come in next year and then take a big man.

how about some of the posters on here that might have a year left. seems a lot knows who we should get and how they should be coached. its so funny to read what these dumb azzs say

I know about coaching and he has not done a very good job of coaching this year.

I'm not promising they'd take mathieu, but I'm pretty sure the staff is counting Thompson. One thing, thompson needs to add muscle, maybe theyre thinking add mathieu and they could redshirt thompson. So still looking at mathieu seems intriguing...Lewis says Martin is gonna have Golden's man torching him all game in his mind and that he's adamant about fixing it. Makes it sound like he really thinks CCM feels most of our issues are PG related...has said even that if Thompson proves he can play he could see Thompson taking a lot of
Golden's PG minutes.

I would take both, simply because Thompson can play the 2, and so can Lyle which is who we want in 14...so 14-15 would look like:

Thompson/ Mathieu
Lyle/ Moore
Hubbs/ Richardson
Davis/ Q
Stokes/ Yemi
