Here is a question for all to mull over and debate, would you rather in today's cbk rather have a 2-3 star 6'3-6'5 deadly shooter or a 4-5 6'7-6'9star all around player who may or may not be a good shooter?
He wouldn't be an all around player if he couldn't shoot but to answer it the 6'7 to 6'9 player. Not based off of stars but those are the game changers most likely. We've had a supposedly deadly shooter in Mcbee and I'd be happy to replace him with a 6'7 slasher athletic guy any day of the week.

We should be able to tell a few things about the season very early .
Look at the schedule. will we be battling to get the RPI in the upper 50s because of sloppy scheduling?
Will we come out of our early tournament with a win over Kansas or Mich St.
Will we start out playing .500 in the first 20 games.

Right now. I have no idea.
What about Chris lofton or Smith? Those are the type of shooters I am talking about not Mcbee he was not consistent all year.
There have been several 4-5 star players who could not shoot a lick JP Prince anyone?
Watching the games today as far as shooting goes has been hard everyone including the top teams are bombs away the intermediate jump shot has vanished and the score board reflects it.
Yeah but name another gem like Lofton that many teams have? I'm still taking the 6'7 guy. Jp Prince was very valuable to our team and went out and didn't everything that was needed on offense and defense. Athletic teams are becoming more prominent than it has been. You can teach a guy to shoot. You can teach a guy who's 6'3 and just a pure shooter to be athletic.
Darius Thompson is very thin and did not look quick enough to cover SEC point guards. He and Hubbs are a lot alike in that they are tall, athletic guys who don't shoot real well from the outside (Hubbs will be more ready to contribute than Thompson).
Both will be great additions to the program but they will not be difference makers next year.
No way Cuonozo is the man. you need some basketball IQ, next year sweet 16 or elite 8, then you could be right if his old college come calling he might leave but for now Cuonozo the man in town, and will be till he here till he wants to leave on his own, book it thats the way the ball bounces around here.Cuonzo is gone in less than 12 months. Just a bad hire
You are wrong on this. Both of those guys can shoot very well from long range.
good point and I agree on Lofton but smith a 2 star I believe was a more deadly shooter from 12-18 feet and he and Lofton made it easier for the athletic guys to drive with space.
Prince was painful on offense until the end of his junior year. I agree he did a lot starting early in his junior year to get wins.
Good point about today's cbk teams being more athletic but it has come at the expense of good fundamental jump shooting and once again the score board reflects it.
Agree you cannot teach a guy to be athletic but you can teach him how to play a sagging man to man defense and force the jump shot to see if your opponent can hit it. Duke has been successful at that for 30 years! LOL just told my age I remember coach Ks frist year.
Good debate we will see how it goes go vols
If Maymon comes back and plays like a dynamo and the incoming players pan out, I think we'll be much better than this year's squad. The thing that worries me most is that Cuonzo and his staff don't seem to be very good at player development.
Again, I must disagree. Case in point, McRae, Richardson and even Chievous have taken their games to another level under CCM.
While both will be good additions to the program, neither will be a difference maker next year. Hubbs is physically ready to play but DT needs to get a lot stronger....and quicker if he expects to be able to play man to man defense at the point.
I hope you are right but both of these guys scored most of their points by slashing to the basket against HS defenders. They will have to improve their outside shots to make a difference at the college level.
