how do we match up with umass?

If we can keep Reese and Moore on him, with their stingy defense on him maybe we can take him out or at least limit his production.

sidenote: play stingy defense but don't foul the man..

If you were talking about guarding their pg you don't want Moore or Reese having to guard him, unless its help defense. Dude is quicker than a hiccup they would.get left behind.

Three starters are gone from last year. They are a much different and better team this year. Their starting Center Cady LaLanne played in the game last year but that was his 1st game back after missing 16 months from foot surgery so he is much better now. They are 13-1 in non-conference play with the only loss to Florida State on a buzzer beater in Florida. They have some real good wins this season inc neutral court wins vs. New Mexico, BYU, Nebraska, and Clemson. They have also won at George Washington and beat VCU, LSU, Providence & St. Joes at home. Their last game of the season they lost to St. Louis on a buzzer beater. They have one bad loss this season at home to George Mason. They like to run-run-run. They are similar to Iowa but better and more athletic. They can play out of control at times and are prone to turnovers. They have a big man named Putney who is 6'9" with outstanding outside range so if he is shooting well that will pose a matchup problem for Tenn. Chaz Williams is the star of the team, he is quick but he takes a lot of chances and is just as apt to have 6 assist as he is to have 6 turnovers but he can also score in bunches. They are not a very deep team, they go 7 deep with the 8th player Tyler Bergintino that will play 5-6 minutes. he is a banger and has almost no offensive skill set. Umass struggles against a zone defense esp a 2-3 zone. As I mentioned Umass is a very quick team and because of that they can draw a lot of those reach in fouls. This will be something to watch early on, if Tenn gets into foul trouble early that will help Umass. Cady LaLanne is also prone to commit really lazy fouls as well if he gets past the 5 min mark foul free Umass will be very happy. The rest of the starters are Derrick Gordon who transfered to Umass and has played in the tourney before. He is a slasher and can score in bunches and a great defender, Sampson Carter is a big man with outside range who can also go to the basket and is a solid player. Off the bench is guard Trey Davis who has great poise and is deadly accurate from 3-point range and has a high basketball IQ. Maxie Escho comes of the bench and he could be the key player in this game. He is very athletic, prob more athletic than anyone on Iowa. He can run the floor with anyone but he is very prone to picking up offensive fouls because he leads with his shoulder a lot. The key to the game will be offensive rebounds, if Tenn gets a lot of second chance points Umass is doomed and this has been a problem for Umass the last few weeks. Umass has been hitting their FTs lately which hasn't always been the case this season. In the end I think Tenn wears Umass down with their size up front and wins 65-59.

Hopefully all our PG penetration problems are behind us. The University has seen enough embarrassment.
