How difficult is it going to be to win the SEC with 3 new starters in the Secondary?

Don't know how hard it will be but Phil is on a 2-year timetable to win the SEC or move on. At least that's my interpretation of ADMH's public statements on the matter. No excuses.
yeah, but he's not getting much help when stuff like this happens......not an excuse.....they have to get who they got ready, i agree.......but jeez, the deck is getting stacked against him.......

If nothing else, all this will do is test the collective coaching metal of this program. Bob stoops loses his starting qb prior to last season and still wins the Big 12.......this is hardly of that caliber of a loss, so if we do lose, i'm like you, i don't want to hear about who was lost to this or that........and that it was a "perfect storm".

If we don't play them a any tighter than we have in the past, does it really matter , as long as they can tackle.

I agree totally with what you say there jake. The Stoops situation last year is a dead-on comparison. Unfortunately, I can already hear CPF talking about a couple of "bad actors" costing the program.

the problem though is that if the secondary is weak, it will not help any part of the D.......it puts all the pressure on the front 7 to get to the qb, and i think we all know that we still have some issues on the front 4 that won't make that "easy". the LB's will then be asked to blitz or drop back, putting a lot of pressure on them too...

makes scheming your defense a nightmare. what scheme to use when, do you become purely situational in your schemes? what personnel do you use? can you afford to desguise what the safeties are doing if you have no confidence in your corners, can you afford to take an LB off the edge? do you drop an LB in coverage for help, can your front 7 stop the run on their own...........if not then you have to bring help and hope the other team can't throw to save their lives.

that's worse case obviously, but with the ever growing list of peresonnel that will NOT be around........ugh, those questions become more relevent.

me too. and it's not even that he might even be right in his assesment.......it's that this is not "new" information at this point. we know the situation going in to the season.....what are we going to do to take care of it? this is going to test John Chavis and his staff more than anyone else, truth be known.

The understanding of the safeties is what is most critical. Enough experience there and thay can get young corners into position. I never think frosh deserve to start, but we are starting to look at an instance where you'd have to say that real speed can cover for a lot of ills. Considering the developing situation, the best spin you can really put on the deal is to say..."Thank God we're not talking about linebackers this way"...

I have faith in Chavis. The defense didn't fold in '05 despite constantly being on the field, so I think he will find a way to get it done. But this defensive backfield is a BIG issue. And stopping the run/DTs stepping up.

When is the last time UT finished in the top 10 in pass defense under Fulmer?

Never that I can remember. The secondary coaching has been suspect.

Yeah, Battle started 13, Wilson started 6, Greer started 13, Baker started 12, Miles started 10

Has anyone ever won the SEC while replainc 3 of 4 starters in the secondary? 3 of them with no starting experience in the SEC? Seems like a big hurdle.

Pretty hard. I would say the schedule is the big part to that.

i've never had an issue with Chavis either, especially when you trot out John Henderson, Albert Haynesworth, DArwin Walker, Al Wilson, Jesse Mahlenoah(sp?), Justin Harrell, and any one of the other future NFL draft picks on the feild.....
