How did you know?

It’s hard to believe that a guy as inarticulate as Pruitt would have interviewed very well.

I’m thinking the most important question during the interview probably went something like this:

“On the goaline going in, would you call a play with the quarterback in the shotgun or under center”?

He prolly said under center and got the job.

It's probably been played out, but do you know a single educated person over 20 years old that can't recognize asparagus? It's actually a fairly common side at nicer restaurants/steakhouses, and coaches are quite familiar with dining on the corporate dollar. Heck, I've probably eaten asparagus at least 2-3 times in freaking Alabama, and I only go there to play golf or watch the Vols.

Forgive me if this this has been posted before. But for you folks who correctly predicted Pruitt would fail (I was very much on the Pruitt bandwagon) What was your clue that he would be a disaster?

First time I heard him speak.
I like country folk, but he took it to a whole new stereotypical level.
an embarrassing moron.

Forgive me, but when we lost to Georgia State I told my wife he was done. No matter how long he stayed, when he got fired it would be because he lost the Georgia State game. That is not what they would say, but that loss put the writing on the walls for him. Every mistake he ever made led back to Georgia State.

I lived in Atlanta then.
I remember seeing a Georgia State bus in downtown Atlanta on their campus that had a tv monitor on its side and it kept showing highlights from the game and the final score on it. What an embarrassment.

He had a 3rd grade grammar level. But it's obvious people are having a hard time letting him go.
He appeared to be a really good Cat multiple places and had coached for a number of very goo head coaches for a number of years. I thought he would at least have a very good defense. He hired Chaney who hd done a good job with us during his first stop at Tennessee. Fulmer appeared to be able to get support from the Administration and he seemed to be recruiting good players. How could he not become a good coach? Well, we found out a lot of things during the last 8 games of last year. I was surprised and many other fans did also. Many first time head coaches failed and he was one of them.

To me, it seems rare for a first time HC to make it in the SEC. Smart (took over 10win team), Richt, Mullen....off the top of my head that's all all I can recall over the last 15-20 years. Who am I missing?
I would say that you could make an argument that Mark Stoops is a moderately successful first time HC, at least by UKFB standards . 49-50 overall & 3-2 in bowl games over 8 years. First 3-4 pretty abysmal but trending up last few years & SEC COY a few years back

I agree I honestly thought he would have a stellar defense. With Chaney's offense how could we fail. I thought this guy knows what good football should look like. I honestly thought he'd get us back to 10-3 11-2 type seasons..

There were a few cues to me, but his inability and/or stubbornness in regards to decision making and how he managed the program overall became glaringly obvious after about game 4-5 this season.

At a certain point, it seemed like he was more willing to let the wheels totally fall off than to come up with a different approach....And I'm just not talking about the QB situation.

I remember that post and thought it was very astute. You would think a coach’s instructions and inspiration would have the biggest impact at the beginning of each half but as you noted that’s when we played the worst. I kept hoping until the wheels fell off in 2020 but that post planted the first doubts for me.
