How did you change your blood color to orange?

Dad played (i.e. had a jersey, never actually played) for the Vols in the late 50's (for one season then got called up by the army), and I was born and raised less than an hour from Knoxville. Have never lived more than two hours from Knoxville. Played football at C-N or I would have attended UT. Married a gal whose father has been a season ticket holder for almost 40 years. So now I have season tickets. Have more orange golf shirts than I wish to acknowledge.

I guess I was born into it. Some of my earliest memories as a kid are watching Tennessee games with my dad, 1998 UT/Arkansas is the first game I vividly remember. Thats the game which made me fall in love with the Vols. It was great growing up here in Alabama during the mid-to-late 90's while we had the streak going on.

It was a cold and windy evening in 1961 when I was born and have been a Vol fan ever since. From listening to the games on the radio as a child to ushering games to going to games I have bled orange my whole life. When the Vols win all is right with the world, when they lose it is going to be a bad week to get over.

Born in them thar Tinasee hills and listend to John Ward call a Vols game. "Twisting and turning, churning and GRINDING down to the 45 yard line!" That done it.

The doctor induced labor a few days early on my mom simply because he had tix to the Tennessee/Alabama game. Obviously she was ready enough to where it wasn't going to hurt anything, but I was due on the day the game was supposed to be played.
My dad says they were able to get UT apparel on my by the day of the game.
That was 1980.

Moved to Tennessee at age 8 and have been a fan ever since. Went to Fulmer's football camp and was in the same defensive backs group as Al Wilson, who was originally recruited as DB. I now live in KC, MO but still am a die-hard Vols fan. Its hard because people here in Little 12 country think I am a texas fan.

followed up a few plays later with "Touchdown Tennessee"

"Cockrell, long pass downfield is----COMPLETE!" "Bill, the receiver worked overtime to bring that pass in." Bill----mumble--mumble---"He did, John." Commercial break---John----"See the new line of Ford trucks at your Tennessee area FOORRD dealer!" Best announcer ever in College Football.

My parents didn't really follow football when I was a kid but one of my friends was and still is a Big Orange fan, so I decided I'd go for Tennessee. Kind of stupid, but that's what happened.

I was born in texas and when the doc checked my blood it wasn't burnt orange and they all freaked out, then my dad came in and said that's big orange, i had no choice but to be a tenn fan. I wouldn't trade it for anything.

Grew up the black sheep of the family...both parents are Miss State Alumni. I grew up going to Starkville, not Knoxville. In fact, my 1st game in Knoxville wasn't until I was 12 or 13 (thanks Dad).

Growing up, I used to spend a lot of Friday nights over at my best friend's house--he and his dad were HUGE Vol fans. I used to watch the games over there--I was about 6 or 7. It just grew and grew and grew from there until I turned rabid.

Plus, growing up in Nashville--long before the Titans, the Vols got all the media coverage (which is marginal at best now) too. It was, I suppose, a perfect storm.

When I was a young fella, my dad turned on the Sugar Bowl the year we trashed Miami. My dad never was much on watching sports, but he had me and my brother in front of the tv watching the Big Orange, one of the best days of my life. I've been hooked ever since.

I was born in TN, but moved away when I was 4 (1986). I had Tennessee gear, and I knew I was fan because my old man was, but that was all I knew. In 1991 we moved back to Tennessee and I remember watching the first game that season with the TV on mute and listening to John Ward and I knew I was a fan of my own VOLition.

My Dad was a VOL in the no face masks era. One tough SOB so I wanted to be like him. A Volunteer and a great American patriot. Still striving to accomplish a fraction of that.

The great John Ward probably had a tremendous influence on alot of folks becoming Vol Fanatics

My family first settled in Tennessee back when bears, wolves and indians were still a concern. It's a miracle my whole line didn't get snuffed out at the Dead Angle on Kennesaw Mountain or on the breastworks of Franklin. But my Great Grandfather survived, and him and Grandad made a name for themselves breeding horses and bird dogs in Springhill. My ole man worked for TVA most his life. He never took me to a game, but he always brought back something orange whenever he worked in Knoxville.

Took my son to his first game in 2006, and chose to start his experience with Alabama. Walked him down the strip, Then back to the stadium in time for vol walk and watching the band play to the hill. I was sweating in the 4th quarter, worried his first game might be a loss. But it wasn't destined to be Bama's day. And my son and stood in amoungst the sea of Crimson where our street purchased tickets put us and loudly sang, "Heeeeeyy, Bama. I want to know, know, know, will you be my girl".
