Waited until after Saturdays games to vote and the big concern is the 4 week gauntlet of UF, Georgia, Alabama and TAM -- Alabama and Georgia played well - TAM avg, UF meh -- none will be as easy as the pre season hype predicted

I voted 5 only because I saw nothing on either side of the ball to determine what we are trying to do. Looked like mass chaos played with very talented players. I remember all of us wondering why we ran the read option with Worley? After last week, why would we run such a conservative game plan against Appy State and risk losing? Then I watched LSU, coach almost fired because of the lousy offense, coach comes back with the same ole? These coaches can be very stubborn, this is my fear.

Anybody remember a game many years back (15-20 years) when we opened against Syracuse (we squeaked by Syracuse 35-34) and had to beat the gators in overtime and had a miracle to beat Arkansas????

In the Syracuse game......starter QB Tee Martin went only 9-of-26 for 143 yards

I'm pretty sure we won the national championship that year.........

Don't get me wrong............. I HATED last night's game, as did all of VN.

Let's not throw out the Baby with the Bathwater (whatever that means)

Anybody remember a game many years back (7-8 years) when we opened against UCLA, that game went to OT too. Remember a bad 1st game doesn't mean you're going to have a bad season, it's just a very good indicator that one is coming

I am amazed at how many people who have spent A LOT of time ripping me for being "negative" are ready to give up already.

Guys.... it is one game. UT should have beaten them by more than the spread. They didn't. There are a lot of reasons. One is ASU played like it was THEIR national championship game.

Another part is something Jones mentioned. They played a N Texas game plan to limit UT. Sutton's fumble and UT's early miscues on O played right into that strategy. Their front 7 gave UT fits with their quickness but they're likely the only opponent UT will play that emphasizes quicks over power to that extreme.

If UT loses to VT then let's have this Chik'n Lil party. But until then... let's not be suicidal. What do you say?

TN wins but a lot of issue to fix before conference play

Why does everyone criticize Dobb's passing? A long pass saved our azzes the other night.

We were out played and coached at every position except kicker and the secondary.

You had a really good App St team play one of, if not, the best game they'll play all year play a UT team that arguably played it's worst game in a few years and we STILL WON... BUT App St is better?

I'm sorry but that's just stupid...

Keep 'bonin' it up cat.....

I think App State is a better team than Virginia Tech right now

How would Appy have faired against UGA, or Bama? I think good 1st half effort but lose by 20 to 30 points.

I think Tennessee will perform better against VT than they did against APSU. Georgia would have beaten them by 14-17 points. Georgia's defense especially defensive line and linebackers looks to be a liability this season.

In looking at Team 120, I chose to go back to Team 102, and 119, for an idea what a "Championship Caliber Team" looks like on any given week.

To me, you have to play solid defense, solid special teams, and have a solid running game. Line play is critical. You have to be the more aggressive team. Then you have to win the games you should win; win all but one of the games you probably should have lost; and win all of the 50/50's. It's an oversimplification, but I'm trying to avoid a full page post here.

Team 102 did all of the above, and more. They went, IMO, 3-0 on the tough games that could have gone either way.

It's subjective on my part, but I think Team 119 went 0-1 on "should have won" (UF); 1-1 on "Should have lost" (UGA and Bama); and 0-2 on the 50/50's. Again, JMO.

I have my concerns about the offensive scheme. I have my concerns (now) about game prep and team motivation. I have concerns about in-game adjustments. Any one of those can...and at least one likely will...cost us a win if not fixed.

That being said, we're 1-0. We gutted out a tough win against an opponent that proved tougher than we expected. Shades of '98? Maybe. Maybe not.

I'm much more interested in where we're ranked on November 1st than I was on September 1st. I have held from the beginning that I would reserve judgement on this team, and this staff, until after the UF game. Nothing I saw on Thursday night changed my mind; it only served to make this Saturday, and the next two after that, all the more critical for this team and staff. How they respond in Bristol to what happened in Knoxville this year, and how they respond in Knoxville to what happened in Gainesville last year, will tell us a lot about what we can expect from Team 120.

I remain a fan, regardless.

Go Vols.

I'm at a 3. Concerned, yet hopeful it was us getting ahead of ourselves.
