How can football ticket sales be struggling?

The place turned after we won the national championship IMO. It hasn't been as electric since. I remember plastic cups and toilet paper flying from the upper deck. The entire structure swaying and shaking.....we can get there again.....I hope.

I think one thing that is happening is the older generations that had/have tickets without donotions is beginning to go away. There are not as many of the younger generations in a position, for whatever reason, to make donations and buy the tickets.

older fans are moving out and on and less new fans getting involved. Less demand and there are many reasons most of which have been stated in this thread.

The AD can't really afford to reduce the donations / prices until the demand is so low making lower brings in more revenue. So much of the AD depends on the revenue streams from football.

They are likely going to have to make cuts before revenue is up enough to continue support for all football supports. I don't know that, just speculating. I think the trend will continue the wrong way for a few years forcing something to happen...

That's what happened when the AD Board decided loyalty to a Tennessee guy with his 'family atmosphere' was more important than having the best coaching staff available on the field.

Fulmer should have been put on notice after the two Peach Bowl embarassments and the 2005 disaster - disaster on so many fronts - should have sealed his fate. At that point with talent level still decent and not so far removed from dominating days, we'd have been much more attractive to a top tier candidate that this program deserved.

I think you can blaim the incredible increase in game day cost for that. It is happening across most live sports. The middle/working class segment who provided the most rabid/rowdy support are being priced out and the social/business set has taken their place.

Get the costs down, bring the working class back and game day will get its edge back.

Respectfully disagree.

From what I've read here so far, the cost for UT season tickets and the associated booster donations are MUCH lower than UF's requirements.

Even in UT's heyday, friends of mine who made the trip to Knoxville have always been able to find tickets on Cumberland for a little over face value...even if they missed most of the pre-game haggling with scalpers. Personally I don't think spending $200 for pair of UF-UT tickets is all that unreasonable.

If what many here are saying is true, ticket prices and availability won't be an issue, at least not this season.

Would you spend that much money to watch a team whose best record in the past 2 years is 7-6?

I had UF season tickets during Zook and before Spurrier, so yes.....especially when my most hated divisional rival comes to town.

That's the whole point. People keep trying to argue that ticket prices are too high, but in reality the reason sales are slumping is simply because the team hasn't been very good the past few years. Ticket prices are on par with, or cheaper than what other schools in the SEC are asking. While I admit that prices have risen over the past 5-10 years, so has the price of almost EVERYTHING else in the world. It seems a little silly to expect that while every other product on earth gets more expensive, football tickets would hold on the same price as 10 years ago. It's rediculous, but apparently that's what some people actually expect.

A lot of old people at the games get annoyed when people around them stand up and get loud. They want to sit the whole game and treat it like an orchestra concert.

If you're the only person standing, then I can understand the older fans' gripe. You can be loud while sitting down, yet still be respectful of people sitting in your section.

I sit in the alumni section at The Swamp and every now and then we get students who want to stand the entire game even if no one in our section is standing.

I had great lower level seats last year and only donated $250. Most people would rather just complain "oh, the donation is so high, no wonder we can't sell out" rather than actually look into it, and find that it's actually much more affordable than they thought.

Not anymore. $500 a ticket minimum for lower level.

Ah yes....the battle of young vs. old.

If everyone around you is standing, then stand up. It's not uncommon for our section to stand up before big plays or the first series of a big rivalry game. If you're the only person standing, then show some respect to the people behind you and sit.

It's common sense.

:)

It's an age/maturity thing.

Sometimes youth is wasted on the young because their brains haven't fully developed.

I actually have to deal with adults at games 10+ years older than me who don't get it either.

I'm not a yeller, never have been, even when in college. I'll stand or sit an entire game, it doesn't matter, but most of the people around me in my section want to sit and inevitably there is always one redneck who comes who wants to stand and act a total idiot the entire game. Cheering is one thing, being a drunken fool is another.

Why on earth would I take the advise of a gator fan about anything?

We're on the same page....and we've completely hijacked this thread. :eek:lol:
