1. We don't know that Helfrich or any other good O/C would actually come here under Butch Jones. He may have had no other option than internally promote. Would you want to risk your career by coming here and coach under someone who started the season on the warm seat?

2. I will not adjust my expectations based on what happens with Butch Jones. College football is entertainment to me. BJ's teams are not entertaining. If he comes back, I'm done cheering for UT. BTW, I'm a UT graduate from 1984 and a fan since 1969.

i'm not sure we tried...i mean REALLY tried...to hire anyone else. and we sure as heck aren't going to hire a top notch OC now.

as for your 2nd point...to each his own, i'll always be a TN fan, but if CBJ is there next year, it just won't matter as much, and i won't have to worry about finding a game to go to, or making my schedule around what time the games are played....

If the AD plans to wait until the outcome of the season to make a decision to release CBJ, then he's a fool, and it doesn't matter if Butch stays or goes. We're going to get more of the same no matter the coach. We've had 4.5 years of Jones. Anyone with a pulse ought to be able to evaluate his strengths and weaknesses with the existing evidence and make a choice about the program's future.

Fortunately, I don't believe that Currie is a fool. I believe he has made his choice, and he's already working to find the next coach. If Currie is worth his salt, Jones is a dead man walking.


BTW, there's no way he wins four more this year. I'm setting the over/under at 1.5.

This is a joke man! What elite oc would ever consider coming here for a lame duck coach? And who would make that decision anyway? Butch has continually assured us that he's putting together the best staff in America. But he's continually to be incredibly average. And ultimately, he's had decent assistants at time but they can't overcome the sheer stupidity of their head coach

Butch can survive, by getting over himself, deciding he isn't the greatest play caller and decision maker in football history, building a time machine, going back to last season and hiring the best available offensive coordinator possible BEFORE this s***show of a season, and getting out of his own way. Seeing as none of those things are possible in any time line or with any amount of time travel, he can go survive at a MAC school.

Jones in 5 years has given sufficient proof to most of the college football world that he isn't good enough to coach at this level. It doesn't really matter what kind of contract you give him... recruits don't want to play for losers. And... if I were a rival recruiter... I would do my best to get kids to look at Jones' injury rates over the past 4 years.


Why are you trying to dream up a scenario where UT keeps a coach who has proven he's not up to the job?
