To announce a new DC the day of or before NSD...not for the vols of course, but for which ever team he leaves from...
has there ever been an example of a coach leaving on NSD or a couple days before/after?

This is exactly why we won't announce a DC before NSD unless he comes from the NFL. It would be pretty low to leave a team the day before or on NSD. I'm sure it has happened before but I wouldn't know of any examples.

It is bad enough to lose your Head Coach and a majority of his staff 3 weeks before NSD.

It would stink either way. But, it's a business and a career for coaches.

I just asked this question in another thread...worse for a college DC to leave the week before or the week after? Man that would mess up some kids if he waited until after.

Something just keeps telling me it will be Steele. He took the job and went back to Clemson and realized he could not do that to their recruits. Maybe DD also wanted him to wait til after NSD to avoid the black eye? There is no one else left out there IMO and just makes sence. Hopefully Chuck Smith follows and we call it a day!

I am just wondering...to me it seems it would be better to move before so the kid has a chance to think about it and not screw the kid over a couple days after...

Yes, I know I want kids to come play at UT who wants to be at UT and not just some coach...but there are some strong relationships made during recruiting

That scenario reminds me of a time when I had to decide to break up with a girl before or after Valentine's Day. Either way I would look like a jerk. So I did it the day before and didn't have to buy her anything lol.

So, they will announce Monte Kiffin as TN's DC the day before signing day. Monte's remark is that he just wanted to show his son what it felt like. [This is a joke, so remember to laugh]

If the announcement is made later than NSD, would the DC come from the Saints or Colts?

I don't know any more than anyone else, but I feel if it was NFL and they made the decision last week, they could announce it last week.

It feels like a college DC if the announcement is coming this week.

Someone please help me remember the timing of when Rodney Garner left for Georgia. If memory serves me correctly, it seemed to screw up our signing day that year.

Our signing day last year was far from "screwed up". Just sayin...

Garner didn't leave "last" year. That's why the guy said "that" year. As in the year that Garner did leave. You know, back in the 90's.

Whoa, my bad, I stand (very) corrected. I definitely thought it said "last". I was assuming he was mistaken on which coach he was talking about as well. That entire post makes exponentially more sense to me now. Thanks for the clarification, as well as the B****-slap.

No harm. No foul. I should have clarified back in the 90's. I just remember the Vols having a lot of their recruits signing with UGA on NSD, and then sometime around NSD, Garner left for UGA.
