Sitting around listening to several Bruce and The E Street discs today while having a few beers. The Big Man was truly dominant.

his work on "Born to Run" is truly outstanding

I even like his solo attempt with Jackson Brown and Daryl Hannah

He will be missed dearly. Was great live the couple times I was lucky enough to catch them.

No crap - Clemons had a nice sound but putting him at the top just doesn't cut it.

Coltrane? Adderly? Getz? Hawkins? Shorter? etc. etc.

I can't speak for the poster who mentioned Clemons and Sanborn but I don't really even put them in the same category as Bird or Coltrane. They might all have a sax in their hands but it's a completely different animal.

Only saw Bruce & the E Street Band once, but I came away with this conclusion.

I have never seen 15 people (Band PLUS brass section) have more fun giving a concert for two and a half hours in my life.

Gonna Miss the Big Man.

RIP

I loved watching and listening to the Big Man, too. Great entertainer. On a top 100 list ever, I don't think he gets in the top third. Nothing against him at all just a lot of really great sax players out there. I used to enjoy watching Ray Charles blow that alto sax on stuff.

While not on personal favorites list, I know lots of musicians who would say that Phil Wood is high on the list.

Also, not cracking any all-time greats list but a really good player who puts on one hell of a show is Karl Denson.
