How are we going to defend DJax?

Yes, I think that will be the general gameplan. Press under with safety help. I also think you will see us mix up coverages some to confuse both he and Longshore, and, as Dan mentioned, throw a lot of different packages at Longshore. A confused quarterback throwing from his backside takes a lot of the gamble out of matching an inexperienced DB against a good receiver.

your dline better get a good pash rush because I wouldn't suggest blitzing much. nate get a lot of flack for being immobile, but actually has very good feet and an excellent pocket presence. Similar to marino in that way (though marino's release was obviously much faster).

Also, until Jackson hits 500 homeruns, makes a movie about a Latino singer, or marries Brittney Spears, could we please refer to him by his full name?

So then it's which midget can push around the other midget?
Well we know gaines and johnson are 5'9,berry is 5'11.Jackson list's at 6' even but 170 pounds in short he is a rail.He also runs like he is on a rail.So i would say the matchup with jackson is the worst one for us in the whole game. The other two guys if you listen to droski are all world. But neither one are as tall and only one of them had good numbers last year something to the tune of 700something yards. So we know cal is capable of throwing the ball around. But jordan and hawkins we matchup well with.Hopefully this will all be a mute point because longshore will be running for his life most of the day.:good!:

you got to hit jackson at the line. back off him and he will destroy you. same for hawkins and jordan.

I agree with you.

I'd like press coverage with inside LB blitz. Hopefully (for us!) disrupt the timing on both ends.

You help an inexperienced secondary by pressuring the quarterback. If the front four can do it, that's great. If not, you bring more. If Wine Country's answer to Dan Marino can find receivers, then the Bears are going to move the ball.

Hopefully. I'm nervous about the d-lone too. Man I just want the game to get here already so I can see what we really have.

Agreed. What worked last year?

Chavis should have a good pre-game plan, and needs to be ready to adjust if "Plan A" don't work.

Personally, I think a 4-3 alignment, with LB blitzes. Press coverage, with safety help over the top.

Like most, I am more concerned about Jackson's punt returns than his receptions.

We'll see.

Go Vols.

Okay, what's wrong with what I'm thinking? Hefney on Jackson and Berry on one of those tiny recievers?

Who would play Hefney's role. He also hasn't been a corner since his frosh year I believe.

hawkins is much bigger than jackson and has a very good verticle leap. i wouldn't be surprised to see berry on him. might be an interesting matchup.

We don't assign man on man matchups. One CB plays one side all the time, and the other plays the other side all the time. We don't say "Berry ... you're on Jackson, line up across from him no matter where he is"

We need to have our corners play bump and run on Jackson and try to jam him at the line of scrimmage, I just don't think Jackson is that physical. Safety help over top.

BINGO!! Jam him hard at the line of scrimmage. Every play. Stay in his face all day long. Whoever is on him needs to know what toothpaste he used. Will we get burned? Yeah probably a little. But we have the talent and athletic ability to provide a backup for whoever is on him. I don't think we are going to just have one guy on him all alone. There will be safety help back there just in case.

Do you think we'll use press coverage and try to disrupt off the snap, cheating a safety over to that side in case the corner gets beat? Or do you think we'll play off the line? Man to man or bracket zone coverage?

I'm looking forward to seeing what we do. I like the idea of press coverage, particularly if he's on Berry's side since Berry has the size advantage plus speed the speed to keep up.

Doesn't matter how you defend DJax. Give Longshore a little time and DJax will make plays. The best way to defend DJax is to get to Longshore.

It will interesting to see how well Cal picks up our blitzes this year. They didn't do a good job of it last year... I'm sure the crowd & environment had at least something to do with it. Justin Harrell also had quite a bit to do with it. We need a big day from the d-line.

Press with a lot of line pressure stunts in pass situations.

I have full faith in Chavis and his game plan, they will be expecting blitzes and zone i believe, i say lets line up man to man and press, see what our Dline does then start sendind some LB'S on the blitz. I'm really excited about the defense this year, the offense is what i'm a lil shakey about.

We'll pimp Jackson out the same way we did "All-World" Peter Warrick in 1998. Straight forward smash mouth press coverage and a no man's land across the middle. Nothing special.

Marshawn, DeSean, they can send whichever Shawn/Sean they want.

We're ready to knock heads.

Same way we did last year, beat up Longshore until he doesn't want to throw anymore.

The Sporting News described Longshore pretty well. Basically Longshore is John Navarre from Michigan a few years ago. He's pretty good when he has time, but once he sees pressure, he's remarkably average.
