That's not exactly what I had in mind, but I'll take it..

I know it seems as if I might be gloating a bit, but after all the abuse I've taken in the politic forum, I deserve it.

Gloat away OWB. You deserve it. Pardon the fact that I offer no concession speech. I wasn't running for anything.

The best thing to come out of the election for me was a change of mayor in Lex, and a NO vote on the city's desire to condemn and buy the local water co.

Well, they certianly can't do any worse. Things can only get better.

Not so fast my friend, there are some who still remember Jimmy Carter. But they have the hammer now, lets see what they do with it.:peace2:

It's all perpective. Some things will get better and some won't. Those are the choices people make when they vote a certain way. Or at least, speaking for myself only, I try to vote for what effects me and my family. Priorites change in life and so has my vote over the years.

I do think the Dem's will make some positive changes. Each party does when they win. Some areas though will not improve. Just the way it is.

Oh yea, congads. :hi:

Time will tell...depending on what happens in the next 2 years, this could actually be good for the right wingers.

CONGRATS OWB!

Hopefully the democrats will move centrist, ala Bubba Clinton, and try and unite the country.

You will have two years to make significant change.

If by the chance the democrats do not keep their promises, I wonder if the country will rebel once again and develop a viable 3rd party?

Again, congrats OWB!

I doubt much will change. The democrats had continually frustrated republican initiatives in congress with their minority, and I'm sure republicans will return the favor here.

Congrats - people were clearly dissatisfied with how the government is handling stuff. However you will still take abuse in this thread :p

A few observations:

1. It appears that many of the turnover seats were won by rather conservative democrats. Dissatisfaction rather than ideology appears to be the big driver of change.

2. The party preaching morality lost on issues of corruption. The party claiming to be less corrupt now has to keep their nose clean or this could reverse (good luck with that). They gain about 35 more corruption time bombs.

3. It will be fun to be on the offensive now - actually awaiting all the stellar leadership from the likes of Pelosi, Conyers, Rangel, Hastings, and potentially, Reid, Schumer, etc. Yesterday, Dean, Pelosi and Reid talked about "changing the tone" in Washington and reaching out for bipartisan action. Um...I won't hold my breath on that one.

4. Dems finally have to have a plan rather than complaining - should be fun.

The Democratic congressional initiatives can be summed up in one word: subpoena.

Democratic plan A: Take the White House.

Lets be honest, not a whole hell of a lot of headway can be made until the '08 presidential election has run it's course.

side note.... Pelosi and Reid(even Hillary) are not the democrats that are going to take this country on it's next course. It is time for new democratic thinking and this election is a fine start. It is, however, just a start.

What would they complain about then? :)

I agree that Pelosi and Reid are not the future leaders of the party but they are the current leaders. With as objective of a view as I could take on the matter, I've seen very little real leadership from either of these. Add Howard Dean to the mix and the Democratic party is being controlled by ideals and values considerably different than those apparently held by some of the new Democratic winners.

On a serious note - I was surprised at how many Republicans with relatively high visibility were ousted. Tough time to be an incumbent.

Also mildly surprised that the "Punch Foley for Negron" thing almost worked!

You know at this point I am fed up with them all! But in my book the only THING out there worse than Hillary is that Nancy Too Loudsy!

Well for conservatives, this was a victory. The party was purged of those watered down fence riders. The thing was that some of the party's stalwarts and veterans were the ones purged. The GOP moves right and the Dems move center. It's a classic strategy. The key for the Dems is for these moderates to step up and take charge. If they become the voice, then the Dems can stand to make more gains in 2008. The GOP as a whole will have to keep their mouth shut and/or move more to the center if they plan on retaking Congress.

The keys? If we're attacked by terrorists or Iraq gets worse, who is in charge? Bush. He still gets the credit or blame for anything foreign policy or security related.

Dems could really take this surge into 08.........

yeah...ok. the problem you have now is that the Dems actually have to lead. for the last 12 years all they could do was whine and obstruct.

Bush is a lameduck, every president is after the 6th year. Don't forget that the dems do not have super majorities in either house, which means they can't override any presidential vetoes.
