Stevens has a contract through 2021...wouldn't that be a huge buyout? Can UT afford that plus a large salary for him and staff?

It would be interesting to have him be the interim coach for 2 years while Pearl sat out his 2 year penalty from the NCAA. NCAA would probably make the penalty stiffer if UT did that.

His buyout is a cool 1 million- we can afford that plus a huge salary.

Say it for the hundreth time, offer Brad Stevens 3.5 and he's here

Sorry but we'll never pay a basketball coach more than a football coach at UT, let's remember we are a football school first and foremost. Not that I wouldn't rather it be equal but that's not reality.

If we offer Brad Stevens 3.5 million... will we officially be a basketball school? Head basketball coach paid more than head football coach?

Who's Houston Fancher ...

"Gary Parrish of CBS Sports reports the search for a replacement has already begun, while Jeff Goodman of Fox Sports says "former Appalachian State head coach Houston Fancher is expected to take the reins as the interim coach until a permanent replacement is hired."

How about Randy Lambert at Maryville College, he has a winning record and really values academics... 12 straight years with 20 plus wins.

and he's run a stellar basketball camp since I was a kid (mid-80s).

sold.

If Pearl is gone and we cant land a huge proven winning coach....why not give a guy like Houston Fancher a shot. He has HC experience, a winning record, and seems like a "Dooley" type guy. He was 2003 Southern Conference coach of the year. He won The Southern Conference Championship in 2003, 2007, and 2008. Now I know the Southern Conference is not SEC level, but everyone needs the chance and a place to prove themselves. JMO

Those two lines directly contradict each other. Dooley has never won anything of note as a HC.

he's an average coach---not big time. UT needs to get some big money together and hire a top coach at a big time program, not an "up and comer" type who will be learning on the job.

Uhhhh... I hope they really mean this as an INTERIM job. Meaning, one that doesn't morph into "permanent" HC.

Ironically, TOS has him quoted as saying "nobody told me that." Now if that's not a confidence booster, I don't know what is.
