I'd like to stay within walking distance of the Georgia dome for a fairly reasonable price. Anybody got any advice on which hotels to look into?

No recommendations.

But, go to Google maps and search Georgia Dome. Then expand search to hotels.

It'll show you what's in the area. Not cheap though. Many are already booked up due to NYE.

We are staying at the Hyatt Regency downtown. It is walking distance and fairly reasonable, I think it was around 140 a night. They still had rooms just a couple of hours ago. I have stayed at the Days Inn downtown and it is also walking distance, but it is about the same price as the Hyatt. The Hyatt looks to be much nicer.

Be better for you to stay farther out and ride the MARTA to and from. It's cheaper that way. That's what I'm doing.

I would offer someone to stay at my place for free ticket and all drinks paid for for the night...any takers?

You will not find anything reasonable. Although Buckead is pricey, you may find hotels cheaper there than downtown for New Years. You can easily take the Marta for 2 bucks that will take you right there basicaly under 20 minutes.

Where you should stay depends on how much NYE nightlife you want after the game. If you want to go out, get a hotel in Midtown. If not, stay out somewhere else and take Marta in.

Anyone who hasn't been to Atlanta in awhile may not be aware that the Buckhead bar district is dead dead dead. I live in Buckhead, but I can't see much reason why anybody from out of town would stay around here. If I didn't care about going out, I'd just stay out in the burbs somewhere.

I think my only concern with the Marta is post game. We tried to take the Marta after the SEC Championship in 2007 and it was a nightmare! Maybe that was not the usual, but it was enough to keep me from doing it again.

Moondogs? East Andrews? Bleah.

I guess there's the restauaranty crap in and around the malls, but the martini-bar scene isn't exactly my thing.

I may just be older and/or have differenct tastes. We moved here acouple of years ago. Still have house in Memphis so have high rise condo until sells. I can tell you this... If I did not have God in my life, I would be a divorced man right now! Way to much trouble to get into! I would agree tha downtown is more happening but the nightlife in BH is far from dead!

Oh, funny you should say East Andrews, I live right next to it!

I am staying at the Marriott Marquis downtown. I stay there whenever the basketball or football team is in Atlanta. It's great around the Holidays and I believe the team stays there as well. It's within walking distance of everything. However, it is kind of pricey.

The Hilton downtown is where UT is staying and they had rooms available this afternoon. The Mariott downtown is where VA Tech is staying.

I stayed north of downtown and took MARTA in for the SECCG in 2007, and I thought it was great. There's a huge crowd when you leave, but that's to be expected. If I was going for this game, that's what I would do.
