Hotel recommendations for JAX

Four Points Sheridan in Baymeadows is very nice. On the other side of the river from the Gator Bowl but the interstate and highway system in Jax makes it easy to get from one place to another. There are several other good places. I lived in Jacksonville for a number of years, but I really like staying in the Baymeadows area when I go back to visit family and when I went to the UK game there two years ago.

Downtown you have the Hyatt, a Hilton and homewood suites, a hampton property, and all of those are a nice walk to the stadium. I wouldn't choose other downtown hotels. There are many in the airport area, at the beach (the team usually stays at the Marriott Sawgrass here), a bunch by St. John's town Center, and Southside by Tinseltown, and in the area near Orange Park and also where I-10 and 295 intersect.

Last time we stayed at Hyatt on riverfront, loved it. This time I booked homewood suites....my first time staying there.

I really think Amelia Island/ Fernandina Beach is a great choice. A1A or I-95 to get into Jax

Good call. Amelia Island Plantation is solid.

I’d recommend staying at the beach, as the nightlife and dining are much better than areas near the stadium.

Too far off of I-95. Takes 15-20 minutes to get there from the Interstate.

Airport exit in Jax. Lots of options there, and right by I-95. Southside; riverfront in Jax; Jax Beach area....any of those are better options than Amelia / FB. Great place to party, or eat, but not so much to be close to the bowl game.

Go Vols.

AIP is solid if you want to eat or play golf. Long drive to and from the game.

You want a great beach? Jekyll. Adds 30-45 minutes to the drive, but makes Jax beaches look like what they are. Overrated and overcrowded. Even in January.

But if it's nightlife you're after, then yes...AIP or Jax Beach area is a good call.

Go Vols.

We're staying at Comfort Inn in St. Augustine right off I95. We want to bum around in Daytona on Friday before heading back home on Friday.
Where would one find a radio station to listen to Kesling on? Hubby prefers listening to him. Also, when and where will the Vol Walk take place?

Quality post.

There’s also a lot of activity off the Jax Airport exit, plenty of shopping and dining choices. I grew up on that side of Jacksonville, and the area has exploded over the past 10-12 years.

There is not a station that plays Kesling here in Jax (too bad for us). There is a Tennessee Athletics app on the iphone that I have that you can listen to him call games though. It's by IMG LLC on my phone.
Last time we played in the Gator bowl the VolWalk was from the baseball grounds of Jax to the stadium at about 3:00. You'll want to be along the area of Lot J to participate in it. Go Vols!

Stay out of "the loop" area. Jacksonville is mostly a huge sh!th@le. Near the coast is best. Some hotels at the Yulee exit that aren't too bad, let you get in and out of town pretty quick.

Those reviews aren’t wrong.

I would strongly suggest you guys avoid any hotels off Phillips Highway, Emerson Street or University Blvd.

Stick to the airport exit, Baymeadows, Butler Blvd or the beaches...or downtown.

If you stay near Baymeadows be sure to get some BBQ from 4Rivers Smokehouse. You won’t be disappointed.
