Hot Take on Pruitt and rebuilding

Pruitt will be second in line. Dabo is the first call for UA.

No disrespect to Pruitt but, He would be a Lane Kiffen to USC like 10th choice.

They want proven and established not a 2-3 year coach. Unless Pruitt wins an SEC/National Championship in 3 years.

I do see Bama having trouble keeping a coach after Saban if they aren't winning NC in 2-3 years JMHO! Like Tennessee since Fulmer, Florida since Meyer, or USC since Pete Carroll. It is hard to maintain what someone else built! Who would want that Job after Saban?

I would want to be the guy who follows the guy who replaces Saban!

I could even see Bama going after someone in the Pros.
maybe Jon Gruden!:)

I think he very well may when he wins another tittle.

If Pruitt's agenda was to follow Saban and he thought he was retiring this year, his best play would have been to stay as his DC, win another NC and then be in place to take over. Not this convoluted conspiracy theory that you have going.

Head coaching experience is very important for most ADs

Aside from Chandler, we only have serviceable RB’s. Maybe Jordan will breakout but we don’t have a stud like Jamaal Lewis, Travis Henry, Charlie Garner, Chuck Webb. We’ve got to get some studs to take the heat off of the OL and QB.

Ok let's make this clear I like Pruitt and think he is a great fit with one big IF and that is IF he doesn't bolt for Bama in the next few years.

Now with that said I think what we are seeing now with how he is recruiting and burning spots for the 2019 class with grad transfers and this latest juco commit is a coach that is prioritizing a long shot at winning now over Buiding for the future.

Imo these spots we keep burning for 2019 are showing a short sided approach to the rebuilding process. I think we need to be saving spots so that the 2019 class can begin to get us back on track.

Now for the hot take part but I am starting to think there may be some truth to this. Pruitt knows Saban is retiring in a few years and he is desperately trying to win an extra game or two this first year or two so that he puts himself into a better spot to go home. He doesn't really care about taking the approach of rebuilding this thing for the long haul which saving spots for later classes requires.

No coach in his right mind would want to follow Saban. Lose a couple of games there and your toast. Bama will go for the best coach and pay big for him. A win or two would be nothing, more like a natty or two.

Pruitt wants the extra win our two to bolster recruiting here.

We had a stud last year and our oline and qb still sucked

wow! now you tell us how you feel. if you had only spoke up earlier...now we are stuck with this guy? i did not know that Coach Pruitt didn't care about rebuilding the program. dang...my day is ruined

OP probably was saying the same thing about Dooley before he coached his first game....

Agreed. You never want to be the guy that replaces "the guy".

I would be willing to bet that most Bama fans know that there wont be another Saban. Agree with you though, following him is gping to be a freaking nightmare for any coach.

The last coached proved that winning 8 games wasnt finishing the job. Pruitt must build this thing higher than that and taking unsuccessful grad transfers and unsigned juco kids after signing day isn't going to achieve that.

Again I'd rather win 6 this year as opposed to 7 if it meant years 3 and 4 look more promising

you're assuming that the # of bodies is the most important thing.

and even with some of the transfers they've taken, more than a couple have multiple years of eligibility left. same with the Jucos. not all of them are just taking up a spot for a year, then gone.

plenty of programs compete with signing 20ish kids in a class or two.

the two things that have to get better, fast, is the depth along the LOS and development of the roster. there's only one of those you can control w/out adding some more bodies. so if they want a chance to compete at all this year, depth had to be addressed.

influx of overall talent will happen in 2019 and 2020.
