Hot Board Time

Do you guys think Sean Payton would come here? I mean Drew Brees is getting older, we could get Alvin Kamara to come home as running back coach after he’s done playing . It could really set us up nicely with Arch and the Manning’s again and create a pipeline into the fertile Louisiana recruiting grounds. I think this would be the home run we’re all looking for. Let’s make this happen.

It’s time for that annual UT tradition known as a coaching search, so please let me know any REALISTIC candidates and I’ll add them to the list.

Gus Malzahn (former Aub HC) Nah. Without the bagman and cabin, his recruiting is suspect.
Hugh Freeze (Liberty HC) Most likely to be successful given the position and situation we find ourselves in.
Matt Campbell (Iowa St. HC) Pipe dream. He's making enough and I think he's happy there.
Billy Napier (Louisiana HC) Not sure he's up to this level just yet. Risky.
Bill O’Brien (former Texans and Penn St. HC) Great resume, but I see him as an NFL lifer. He's a bit old to give us the continuity we need.
Jamey Chadwell (Coastal Carolina HC) Bright, young, from the area. Articulate. Risky. His record is up and down. He also has had run ins with the NCAA at coastal. If I'm going down that road, I'm going with Freeze.

One guy I'd add to the list would be Kiffin. I think he's grown up a great deal. I know he'd appreciate this job and opportunity if he had another shot at it. Having said that I don't think the decision makers will be so quick to forgive and forget. Still, I can't imagine Kiffin taking the chance by moving on from a job after only one year again. Might be something that would forever tarnish his image and career should be job hunting again and at UT, you know he'd be on the hot seat at some point. Kiffin would be fantastic here if we got so lucky. The guy can coach offense and he's a master on social media. He'd tear it up recruiting. All he'd need would be a great DC. I know...pipe dream.
Dont believe Chadwell has had any trouble at Coastal. That stuff was at a previous stop and don't know how much was really his doing. I could be wrong.

First, can someone explain the love fest with Campbell on here...they are a 3 loss team that just got whipped by a down Oklahoma team and by most folks reasoning are way overrated.
Oh wow he lost three games this year at Iowa State? Well obviously he isn’t worth a damn. And they got whipped yesterday by OU????? The lost by 6. Their quarterback threw a game clinching interception on the OU 5 yard line with a minute to go. That doesn’t sound like “whipped” to me. But when you consider the talent disparity, Oklahoma is 9th in the talent composite and ISU is 57th, it’s quite remarkable that they weren’t blown off the field.

Everytime I see a post and think that is the dumbest post I've seen on Vol nation I read another post that tops it.

Good. I just wanted to see who would pass the test. You did, @Boston Vol did, whoever liked his post and whoever will like your post making fun of me will. I’m just glad no one like my post .

I just wanted people to understand how absolutely ridiculous some of you sound to me with my completely moronic post.

Ok, perhaps whipped wasn't the correct terminology.
I do see now that Campbell appears to be doing much, much more with less talent than others in that league.
Now my only concern would be the length of time it might take for him to work that formula here.

On the upside is we do have talent at a lot of positions on this roster. All guys that deserve to be coached up and by all accounts Campbell and his system can do that.

On the down side is it might not be an instantaneous result and I'm not sure if this fanbase has the patience...

Malzahn would be infinitely better than anyone we’ve had since Fulmer. Idk how they would hire freeze but his resume is impressive vs saban and building a program up from nothing. Contract probably could have plenty of protections structured into it.

Fact is there are proven options with proven success in this conference and Tennessee will do the same thing and sit on their thumbs for another year.

Alot of solid choices on that list. My choice would be Chris Petersen. He's currently available been out of coaching for two years. He built at least two winners at Boise State and Washington. I've read that he's interested in returning to coaching and that the SEC intrigues him. He recruited well to Washington and I don't mean just in terms of rankings but they found and developed good players into pro players.

I personally believe his personality and temperament would fit very well in Knoxville. Seems to be a very easy going fun and likeable guy.

Anyways that's my choice and some reasons why. Plus I think it's more realistic than in the past. Gotta make the call!

Having lived in both Knoxville and New Orleans, I appreciate the pipeline suggestion, but cannot fathom Sean Payton making that move.

They got his face on a Mardi Gras float for crying out loud.

If I had Sean Payton money and acclaim in NOLA, I’d probably never leave.

If I'm Malzahn, I am not worried about coaching for a while. $10 million in cash by Jan 1st, and the remainder of his buyout paid out over the next 3 years? pfft. I'm taking time away from the grind and recharging. Tennessee would be the last place I would want to coach right now if I'm him.

I was joking around man. I was just trying weed out some folks because the level of crazy here is at an all time high. Which is saying something.

That is pretty cool you lived in NOLA though. One of the great party cities anywhere . Definitely took a few years off of my life in that town.

I know very little about O’Brien. Where is he from? Would he fit at UT and in the SEC? Would he be the same sort of fit as Moorehead was at MS State? Square peg in round hole.
He is mostly a northeastern guy, although he did spend some time at GA Tech and Duke in his younger years. The Southern route hasn't really worked out all that well for us either (see Dooley and Gump).

No O Brien or Malzahn. This is who should have to tell us no if we actually fire Pruitt:
1. Meyer/ Stoops
2. Freeze/Kiffen/ Cambell
3. Art Briles/ Josh Mcdaniels
4. Chadwell/ Fickell
5. Sarkisian/ Kendal Briles/ Mike Leach
Yeah, I was talking about realistic actions. If Meyer told UTjr no, then he sure as hell isn't taking this job and I don't see Stoops ever coaching again. Freeze, Kiffin, or Campbell would also be significant upgrades from Gump, although I cannot imagine even LK jumping ship after one year again. Fickell would be intriguing; Chadwell does nothing for me - we might as well go the Freeze route if we are hiring a coach w/ NCAA baggage. Sarkisian would also be interesting.

Correct, it was more of an institutional issue at Charleston Southern involving a number of programs from what I understand.

Will Healy’s name will come up in their conversations. Might be too early but I’d take him over what we’ve got. He’s got a bright future.
