Hot Board Time

I’d like to think the money-men will decide to stop gambling with the future of Tennessee football and do what it takes to bring in a real coaching commodity.

I like Matt Campbell and Malzahn but I would prefer
- Bob Stoops
- Pat Fitzgerald
- Bryan Harsin
That’s what I thought the last four trips around too but we always seem to find a way to gamble everything on snake eyes

With the high quality leadership found at work in Tennessee right now, your would think that there would be legitimate ability to change the University rules to make it more amenable to bringing in high quality student-entertainers. Remove some of those pesky academic and procedural barriers. Make it easier for coaches to recruit. That should make it more attractive to the coaches people claim to want.
So you are thinking we are bringing in high quality academic athletes? You might want to do a little more research to think we might be limited or fighting barriers.

But I will say that if the SEC would set academic standards and enforce them we would probably have much better equality in the conference conference competition.

The next guys job will be to put the program back on it's feet and stabilize it. A lot of these candidates want no part of that but a few would be good fits. Older guys with SEC experience like Richt, Miles and Malzahn come to mind.
Fulmer made a huge mistake by ignoring Miles. He would have been a perfect fit. Natural grass field and a great Agricultural School would have been to his liking.

I agree, but that's not how UT does things. They'll play it safe and conservative as always. They went outside the box one time in the last 50 years with Kiffin and got roasted, so never again.
The administration was totally different and making blanket statements or assumptions diminishes the goal. Expect better, demand better and success will follow!

nope nope nope……… compare the O roster of Bama with TN … now do UF and TN……… almost 100% of the Bama offensive roster would start over the TN roster. I can’t find many on UF…… Pitts and Trask…… maybe Tony … who else?

my point…… Sark has failed way more without all that Bama talent. I could coach those guys…… and I would throw up with the constant…… “another former Saban assistant that can’t beat the master” comments……

Not sure why you would disqualify Sarkisian just because he currently coaches on a team with a better roster than TN and I fail to understand why you even mentioned FL. Also, never said he is my first choice but it would be silly to exclude arguably the best offensive coaches in college football.

you may want to go back and remember the year after Lane K left……… the fan base wanted him gone…… he was not to LK’s level with the same talent…… I mention the roster because it’s almost impossible to be a bad OC with it.

I mentioned UF because real O smarts are happening there. Throw what Jimbo is doing at A&M in as well. Big difference in X&O’s at UF and A&M right now vs TN with much the same roster. Ole Miss under LK.

Hugh Freeze.
Art Briles.
Billy Napier.
Jamey Chadwell.
Greg Roman.

Sad thing is, I am not sure I would be excited for any of these candidates to win big at Tennessee. This program is such a cesspool, that I am not even sure I can get excited for anyone at this point.

Napier was just announced as a top 3 finalist at Auburn along with Sarkisian.

Really? O'Brien's resume is far superior to Gump's. He won 4 AFC South titles in 6 years and did pretty well at Penn St. considering the NCAA sanctions they were under.
I know very little about O’Brien. Where is he from? Would he fit at UT and in the SEC? Would he be the same sort of fit as Moorehead was at MS State? Square peg in round hole.

The only reason I'm thinking it is either a coup or a semi serious violation is because we've been hit with minor violations in the past. Sometimes a couple in a year......and everytime we hear about it after it's been completed and self imposed penalties already dished out.......and I've never seen a minor infraction (that I can recall) cause players and coaches get yanked from a game.
Agree. It has to be more than Gray and Maurer buying dinner with a coach’s credit card. That’s a wrist slap violation.

He’d be my pick for several reasons I’ve already put out there. Is he going to blow anyone away? No but no one would make a sound if he found Barnes type success..
Whatever Gus’s record is (66 and 35 or whatever), it ain’t bad playing in the West. I’d take it right now.

In their opinion Rick Barnes under performed there also. Herman had 2 undefeated seasons at Houston and is a member of Mensa. He can recruit. Mack Brown won a NC at Texas and still got fired. Maybe the problem is not the coach.

Had to google Mensa ... guess I'm an idiot.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
