He has been there too long.. His act is wearing thin

Although he can be entertaining, Miles is not being paid for his schtick.

As for what he IS being paid for:
  • 11-2
  • 11-2
  • 12-2 (NC)
  • 8-5
  • 9-4
  • 11-2
  • 13-1
  • 10-3
  • 10-3
  • 8-5
  • 9-3
I think he's doing alright.

LSU could always do a Richt and fire him anyway, of course.

Peter burns is like a bantam weight filling in for a heavy weight, totally disregard him

If you think for one minute Miles, Sumlin, and Malzahn have less pressure than Butch you are out of your mind!

Funny thing is, I agree that there's pressure on Butch to prove he can reach the Championship mountaintops ... but that pressure is hyped way out of context into something like a threat to his job.

There is no threat to his job. Period. He has brought us too far, too fast, from where we were in 2012 for him to have any job insecurity at all. Period.

No, all his pressure is of the positive type: can he be the best, can he make this team the best?

If you want guys with job pressure, look to Miles (though he doesn't deserve it), Sumlin (who kinda does), Malzahn (who likely does), and Freeze (who really does, if Tunsil's honest).

As usual a voice of reason on Volnation!

Thanks for the clarity JP.

8-4 is more possible than a lot of you would like to think. Other than a few cupcakes, you never know how an SEC game could go.

I'm NOT doubting that the Vols could go 8-4 this season because it's certainly possible.

My point is clear that if UT doesn't achieve the lofty expectations placed on Butch by the media and a some fans that he shouldn't be fired for a season that neither Dooley or Kiffin NEVER achieved at UT.

Why are you comparing Butch to dooley lol. Kiffin was here for one season, Dooley is one of the worst coaches we have ever had. This is the best Tennessee team since 01 and has a great staff with a top 5 DC in the nation!

And besides, how would you like to be this guy who has to fill in for Finebaum?

Sitting there on the set before it goes live, thinking to yourself: I suck so bad at my chosen career field that I'm the 2nd string behind a skinny real-life cross between Elmer Fudd and Mr. McGoo.

That would be brutal, just living inside your own head under those conditions.

If I'm wrong and Butch does get fired for going 8-4 this season, why would ANY coach other than some hack like Dooley or Kiffin ever want come coach at UT?

Firing Butch for going 8-4 would be a complete dumpster fire for UT!

As far as "pressure" or "hot seat", Butch controls his own destiny.

If he can show that he has learned from the mistakes he made during close games and in pressure situations, he will be able to turn this into a 11-1 or 12-0 season. If he hasn't learned, he may be looking 9-3, 8-4 and be on a tremendously "hot" seat next year.

Spot on. I think it would possibly be worse than what we through with Kiffin and Dooley.

Depends what we refer to by pressure.

In terms of losing their job, Sumlin is at the top of the list because of the QB transfers and other mess (how the mighty have fallen).

In terms of faith in a coach and where they will take the program......and you all can deny it all you want......if on 9/24 Tennessee loses to Florida......again.....mattresses will burn. People will declare Butch a great guy, but not the man to take Tennessee where they eventually want to go.

Now, I can already see the replies "what if we go 11-1" yada, yada, yada. If Tennessee loses to Florida, they aren't going 11-1.

But, I am convinced that if Tennessee does not win the East this year, this fan base will lose all faith in his ability to get it done. They will credit him for bringing the program back to respectability, increasing the level of talent, making Tennessee relevant again, etc. But, they will also conclude that if they want a championship, they are going to need another guy.

JMO.

So, yeah, Butch is under a different kind of pressure. But, he ain't losing his job. He's not losing his job with a 7-5 season.

Malzahn has pressure, Miles has a lot of pressure and Sumlin has a ton of pressure but the person in all of cfb with the most pressure is Butch.

Definitely this is the year he wanted and said our boys would be really good. Its 3rd year, we are restless etc but most pressure in the land??? That's crazy IMO. And I dont think this guy is an idiot I can't remember what show he hosts...

No, he is an idiot; doesn't know SH_t from shinola. The good thing is that Butch has talent, some experience, and some depth. You can't expect him to have a full contingent as Bama or LSU who have not been rebuilding, but reloading. In 2017 Butch's first recruits will be seniors. Other than being a dye-hard Vol fan, I hope Butch just routs all of'em. :good!:

Malzhan and Miles have both won the SEC, Miles has 2 national championship appearances and 1 win. Malzhan has 1 national championship appearance and it was a very competitive loss. Sumlin has a Heisman winner, a win over Bama, and brought the team into the SEC.
Butch has a win over a good South Carolina team in 2013, an ok UGA team in 2015, a 5-7 season, a loss to Vandy, a loss to a 4-8 UF team that was beat by an FCS team, the largest margin of defeat in UT history, a 1-8 record against our top rivals, a lackluster 2017 recruiting class, a rotating door for coordinators who move on to worse positions, accusations that he struck a player, accusations that his administration doesn't take sexual assault seriously, and multiple players suspended for sexual assault accusations. No pressure on him at all this year...
