Horrible Statistic...

Interestingly pointed out on the Finebaum show today that Florida was not ranked among the 10 SEC teams that are ranked in the top 25. Butch was on right after practice today.

Your point? That's why I'm saying beating Florida is the more important game. The stat doesn't lie, we've lost 26 of last 27 against ranked teams. I'm in full "I'll believe it when I see it" mode.

Gauging from Saturdays performance I didn't see a team ready to make a statement win. That's just me.

We can still accomplish our goals with a loss to OU. If we lose to Florida a) when are we ever going to beat them? B) the rails start to fall off the track. I can't see us losing to Florida and then taking it to Arkansas and Georgia.

Throw in the decline of UT football under Coach Fulmer, the instability of the program with Coach Kiffin, the debacle with Coach Dooley, we have to consider that aspect when looing at the win/loss record vs ranked opponents. With Coach Jones getting two top 5 recruiting classes speaks volumes in terms of turning this around. We as fans, want instant gratification. Coach Jones is building a program and not a team. Teams are just an element of the program. Look at last season. First Bowl win since 2007 win over Wisconsin. When we win Saturday, you along with the rest of the country will know the "Hype Is Real".

Honest question. Define how a coach builds a program and not a team. What's the difference? Hear Butch say this all the time but e never explains the difference.

Trust me here fellas...... Stats don't mean anything.

Last year Bob Stoops lost the weeks before and after Texas for the first time ever.
First time Bob lost more than two home games in a single year.
First time a team other than Texas beat Oklahoma in back-to-back years.

History does dictate our future, but I wouldn't go by that. Tennessee brings a different style of physicality that Oklahoma hasn't seen since 2008-2009. Nobody runs that style of offense anymore in the Big 12.

Expect Oklahoma to also run off Neyland's energy, and for Oklahoma to be pumped up out of the chute. But I do expect it to be very close, with the winning team winning by a touchdown late.

Quality depth defines a program, which TN lacks. With all the players transferring out, depth may be an issue for years to come. Many SEC teams use JUCO players to help compensate with depth and youth issues.

He doesn't want quality depth on any individual team? And we just signed 2 JUCO players, Kamara and Martin, who are expected to play very large roles for our team this year and hopefully (for Kamara) next.

You know how we get 26 wins against Top 25 teams to offset that statistic, and begin turning it on its head?

We don't have to win 26 games this Saturday. We only have to win one. Go Vols!

That's a bad stat, but it's pretty well inflated by the worst period of UT history coinciding with the most successful period in SEC history.

Agree and consider the fact that in 7 years, Tennessee has played 27 ranked teams (average of almost 4 per yr). It will take some teams 27 years to play 27 ranked teams!

Tennessee has lost 26 out of its last 27 games against ranked opponents.

I'm on the bandwagon here folks but I'm tempering my expectations. This would be a huge win for us this weekend. Wish I could be in Neyland... it will be rocking.

Tennessee hasn't lost its home opener at Neyland since 1994. The question is, which stat wins out?

If we win this game then 10 years from now the fans will look back and say the Oklahoma game in 2015 was the game that got the team going in to the right direction, and knowing we could compete against the elite teams and win, its not a must win game but it is very close to being a must win, just to show the fans and them selfs that we are headed in the right direction.

GBO...

Honestly, I'm fine with the outcome this weekend if we don't make it happen. A win is a long shot IMO, I just don't think we're there.

But rest assured VFL's, all will be forgiven if Butch goes down to Gainseville and thumps Florida in the swamp.

Drop both of them and all hell breaks lose in Volnation.

How is it a long shot? It's probably close to 50/50 odds by now as far as betting goes. If the offensive line is as improved as they looked week 1 and the D performs to expectations, then it isn't a long shot at all. So many people are scared because of the defense in week 1. This is week 2, but I guess it's easier to accept defeat when you tell yourself you can't win.

Here is another bad stat.... Bowling Green lost to Western Kentucky last year to them by almost the EXACT same score 59-31 yes that is not a typo.... 59-31, that is downright SCARY!!!!!!

TN beat Wku in 2013 62-20 :thud:

Some stats are just that, stats and mean nothing.

So you're that guy - the hang wringing grandma who's always worried about something and has to constantly share his negative comments with everyone. Unless you are sharing informaiton that is entertaining or enlightening there's nothing wrong with keep your thoughts to yourself.

If the Vols win on Saturday, it will be considered the pivotal game of the season because the team gains the confidence that they can beat any team. This confidence could mean wins in the Florida, Missouri and Georgia games.
