Horrible Holly

Thanks. And I'm hoping that we win all of them.

As a fan I'm still cheering them on and that means Holly too because she's not going anywhere anytime soon. So I wish her and the team best of luck.

Went back and checked the JMU stats...I see 18 as mentioned previously regarding turnovers

Boom! 💥 but I don't understand how the things being publicly said on this site about Holly AND the players benefit the program.

That's because you are a rational thinker. That type of stuff has not, does not, and will not ever benefit anyone other than the opposition and feed the ego of those few who feel entitled to say what they want in a public forum.

I certainly take no pleasure in saying Holly is a bad coach. I want her to succeed at Tennessee and in the beginning I thought she would. She still might, but she has to do a better job of getting this team ready to play and in making in game decisions and adjustments.
We must have the Va. Tech game. If we lose a game like that getting to twenty wins becomes a lot harder. I thinking getting 20 wins in the regular season with this team will be a good coaching job. You have to win the games where you are favored. We must get out on the three point shooters Mercedes has to be ready to stop some of the drives to the basket. Noticed were only an 8 point favorite in this one were 13 point favorites against Penn State.

If it comes to the point that she has to hire an assistant to motivate players, hire an assistant to recruit players, recruit players who don't need to be developed into All-Americans...it makes me wonder what the hell is she being paid for?

She can't coach offense.
She can't coach defense.
She can't get her players to improve their fundamental skills
She can't inspire her players to perform at their best
She can't oversee her recruiting coordinator

Remind me what she does again?

It's simple.

She's so amazingly articulate at post-game pressers.

She is very good at scratching her head during post-game pressers after yet another defeat.

This thread is pathetic! Started by a troll and ate up by almost all of the HHs (Holly Haters) we have on this board! Constant hate for the Lady Vol program....I bet you all were elated when we lost our first game, which is quite sad for so called "fans"

Next year will be a complete different story and I'll SO be looking for you alls post!
Unfortunately we have heard this comment for 5+ years.... Just "wait until next year". Hope the talent we have now is coached up to reach their full potential.

Not bad for a freshman! Some freshman never get into a game! Cortney ... Nia... She should do a little better the next three years???
The new class coming in will be better as freshmen than some of our 4 year seniors??? MeMe ...Middleton ... Jordan ... Cortney ... Nia???
Looking forward to next year while living with mediocrity this year!
Read some Bio's of the ladies coming ! I do not believe even poor coaching will keep them from being successful?

You obviously haven't seen Holly coach...

Just imagine the pressure that will be on holly when all those top tier recruits cant win games. Fawr Holly!!!

In the 5 years prior to 2012, Tennessee had records of:
34-3, 32-3, 22-11, 36-2, 34-3.

When Holly took the reigns in 2011-12, her teams have produced records of:
27-9, 27-8, 29-6, 30-6, 22-14. You'd have to go back to the 80s to find two consecutive years when Tennessee had 6 or more losses. Holly's had 5 straight.

Holly is the reason why this program is steadily declining. She has proven that she can recruit, but she can't put together a good product on the court. Put her roster with most top 25 coaches in America and they'll have Tennessee a staple in the top 5.

Let's be honest here. Holly was NOT hired as the Coach.
She didn't go through any long interview process against other Coaches.
She inherited a job she did NOT want.
Holly had turned other Head Coaching jobs and I had hear her say many times, she did NOT want to be a Head Coach.
And guess what...........she is NOT a Head Coach.
Pretty simple, she fell into the job and it AINT working.
Time to find some one to that wants it and will put the "coachin" back into the program! :hi:

BBnut90, is that you ? This post looks familiar.

Anger and dissolution can give one a second wind, Rickster. I respect those who want to give Holly the benefit of the doubt. She's a wonderful woman, a great assistant and true Lady Vol for life. I promise you, if Holly retires or is let go, she will be fine. She loves life and will find her niche, post coaching.

It's time for a change sooner than later. The new AD, most likely David Blackburn, will give Holly one more year with her #1 class, but if the results aren't there she, at almost 62, will take that retirement hog and roar into the big orange sunset.

The new coach will be left with a talented roster, awesome fan base and superb facilities. Bring her or him on.

Go Lady Vols!

It's been painfully obvious it's the coach for the last couple of years. Holly had 4 years to implement her system or keep using Pat's old system or whatever she wanted to do. Several players in that time have arrived and graduated but the constant in the equation is Holly. Also constant is the mediocre results:

- Never reaching the final 4 despite overwhelming talent to do so
- Constantly losing games we should win like our recent two game against unranked team
- Constantly putting a poor product on the floor: poor shooting %, no offensive flow, spotty defense, no chemistry or cohesion, etc.
- Inability to motivate players.

I could go on and on but you don't have to be a basketball expert to see that we could have a LOT better options as our head coach. I'm not sure why they continue to stick with her. It's like the University doesn't want to win. That WAS the biggest appeal of the Lady Vols to me. They were winners. Always. The football or basketball programs are always up or down but the Lady Vols were always up. But, that's changing unfortunately.

I'm at the point right now that I would accept 29 and 6. That would be overachieving for Holly. I doubt she ever sees that record again.

if this year goes as badly as I think then at least she needs to dump a good portion of her assistants. i think the coaching staff on the lady vol team is a bunch of friends that are too nice to fire anyone...

we need to get assistants that can implement an offensive set, and restrengthen our defense and post play.

Not only that but Holly has also downgraded the schedule. We have less out of conference opponents ranked AND the strength of our opponents that are not ranked has gone down:

James Madison
Navy
East Tn State
Tn State
Appalachian State
Troy
UNC Wilmington

None of those teams on this year's schedule are ranked nor do they even play in major conferences like the Big 10, ACC, PAC 12, Big 12, or whatever. Teams like Penn State and Virginia Tech that are in the top 50 to 100 used to be more or less the lowest level opponent we'd play. Now, we're lucky to beat those unranked teams and there is apparently no floor for competition we'll face.

And despite an easier scheduled we are STILL losing more. Wake up! It's the coach!

According to most RPI ratings, we had the country's #1 strength of schedule last year. This year remains to be seen, but I don't think your argument holds up.

By virtue of playing in the SEC and scheduling just 3 ranked teams out of conference we will always and have always had one of the "toughest" schedules. But compare apples to apples not apples to oranges. Look at our schedule in years past when Pat was the coach. Look at the # of ranked teams out of conference. Look at the quality of the unranked teams. Completely ignore conference which can't be controlled.

The part we have control of is getting worse IMO: easier opponents and worse results. Comparing our schedule to other teams doesn't change that.
