Horrible Holly

I have watched so many games in the years since Pat had to step down. I have hoped and hoped that with time we would become a good team again. After watching the Penn State game yesterday, I am convinced we are never going to be an elite team again. When is the last time that we signed a number 1 class but could not be excited. I understand that she has fans that will be in her corner, but I am so sick of the comment in the interview "we were not prepared or they just wanted it more that we did". I have watched games long enough to understand that a coach's job is more that x's and o's, but it would be good if she could even do that. She is a horrible coach, she has had four years to solve the zone problem that we face every game. It is no different, as our girls are completely lost when they walk on the floor to face a zone. They don't play very good defense and that is suppose to be her strong suit. We will certainly loose next Sunday and then more of the same comments. The girls and even the fans deserve so much better. When will the eyes be open of the people that make decisions in Knoxville. I know that I will be attacked for this post, but you certainly need to face to facts sooner or later. "SHE CAN'T COACH"

I come here to praise you not to criticize you.....right on target.Sadly Holly is an average assistant coach and not a HEAD COACH.

I will not say never again but it looks bleak with this crew. A couple of good classes like this next one even the coaches SHOULD not be able to screw them up!!!

If Lady Vols don't finish in top 10 and are not "sweet 16" or "Elite 8" Holly needs to go! What are the predictions in wins? If they don't win 25 dismiss her.

The only thing that was absolute this summer, re CHW and staff ws to come up with an offense to break the zone. The recruiting accolades goes directly to Reaves, she did her part. . . Our offensive performance against PSU's 3-2 zone shows me this was not done. I do not fault the players, they can only do what they are taught to do... "Look confused against a zone".

I said it last year, and sadly now I say it again,

"Holly, I am available to help you with this. I have been busting zone defenses all of my coaching life. It is NOT rocket science!

IS no one on the staff able to beat a zone , so we can break it , Can we at least hit 17 foot jump shots. Nared should be banned from shooting threes her and Jordan. Like I remember nared lining up to shoot and straight air ball I mean no defense in sight . This group just does not seem to fit

That is the funny thing ... Holly has been to the sweet 16 or elite 8 ever year as a head coach. 4th game and you guys are already calling for her head. Did any of you look at the shooting stats or see all the lay ups the LVs missed. Out of 8 players, Russell and Nared were the only two in double figures and the only two above 40% shooting. You guys are just toooooo much. No different than last year when she need to be fired because of the lack of recruits and this year she has the #1 recruiting class. Some of you that claim to know the game should understand that playing a good team in their home gym is not an easy task. And the LVs don't play but maybe two scrub teams in the course of a season so give Penn St a little credit and a bad shooting night the rest and move on to the next game.

Three elite 8s and one sweet 16. I believe 3 sec titles, please tell me who has similar results you think would come here? You might want to look at Pat's early years, maybe read some of the coach haters opinions published in News Sentinel at the time. Pat lost plenty she should have one, and the opinion on her was she couldn't win the big one for a decade. I look forward to the proven race horse you think we are missing out on!

Oh and next year, she will have 3 players who a ranking system has named number 1 prospect coming out of high school. Two current ones came to us injured

Yes, but they were favored in both games and her players looked lost as what to do.

Were they? I have a hard time believing that an 8/10 and 8/11 matchup on the lower ranked team's home court would have the higher ranked team as the betting favorite.

Texas players did look lost, but at least they looked lost against teams that were actually good.

I'm not even saying fire Holly yet. But what did Dawn Staley do? She went out and hired a coach that can coach offense in Melanie Balcomb, because she knew that was a problem with her team. I don't believe Holly thinks there's anything wrong with their system or coaching- she thinks the issues are all solely on the players. Until she decides to change that thinking we'll continue our slide.

I agree, our offense has sucked before Holly and it just has not gotten any better. We can't solve the zone and we still have the pass inside offense which we continue to use from championship years. Holly should have the sense to install an updated offense. The bigs are poorly coached and the guards are simply not the best. Holly is one of the top ten highest paid college women's basketball coaches, a lot should be expected from her. Shifting all the blame on the players is not the pedigree of a good coach. When things go bad, she simply does not have the answer. She has had as many 5 star players as any other D1 schools. Remember Genno won a championship with 9 players and ND made it to the Final Four with 9 players. It is time to quit making excuses and saying, "Wait until next year."

That's what C. Vivian Stringer does, blame players, at least in the past anyway, I don't follow them anymore really. I just remember her giving post game conferences and hinting losses were due to players. I hope Holly's not going that route, cause that's a route to the bottom permanently.

She has stated in multiple press conferences that they are implementing a new "read and react" offense. The coaching staff is very much aware that the offense against a zone hasn't been working and implored players to work on shooting and fundamentals over the summer. I agree that there's much work to be done, but goodness, these are professionals, people. You may not think they're doing a good job, but they're not idiots.

We have the players to beat a zone,,They're just not used properly.

To break a zone you have dominate low-post and slashers who can cut through the upper key and score from the elbow. ALL of our players are capable of slashing across the upper third of the key and hitting a turnaround jumper...Or, take it to the hoop.

We beat the zone down low. Russell had a very good performance against the zone. That part of the equation is solved.

We need to find some movement in the upper third of the key. When you penetrate and stop in the middle of the paint, depending on the whereabouts of the ball, ANY one of the five zone defenders COULD be responsible for you. penetrating the zone creates confusion.

A zone is simple , Go were they are not. Simple. flash to the gaps. overload one side., and keep in mind the back side is the side that is Open. we have a lot to learn I am shocked that all the experience on the staff has not produced and results against an zone.

The zone has been around forever, so has the way to beat it.

The zone is played by "choreographed movement" by the players. It is broken by upsetting the choreography.

There is no "read and react" to the zone.
You use "read and react" to take advantage of a "circumstance".... Zone is so planned in its movement that there is little room for circumstance, unless the "circumstance" is your own movement's interruption of the zone's flow.
