I think hopson is one of the reasons this team is missing the fire that the previous three teams have had. Maybe Bruce should recruit players that would play there tail off even if they are not highly regarded recruits. I think woolridge is much better at this point and if they could only play with the intensity of negadu.:banghead2:

you blame Hopson for the lack of fire? Get a clue, noone on the team could give a damn about playing defense.

burt was going off on hopson's lack of defense during the game...boy that was bad

I would not blame Hopson in full be he has done absolutly nothing to impress me thus far this season. He has yet to show he is worthy of a starting job. The guy can do a little scoring but doesnt give effort like he needs to the whole game and doesnt play a lick of defense.

Hopson has ZERO intensity. He hangs his head like Vince Young after making a mistake. Maybe other players do as well, but he is the best example of the said "lack of fire."

Hopson just is the best example of the lack of intensity its not all his fault he is just the worst one and he has a target on his back that comes with a 5 star recruit. Oh by the way if you want me to get a clue then you slow down and spell your words correctly.:peace2:

Hopson = not very good right now. Will be great later. He needs to be more aggresive on offense, and try on defense. All of them have a lot of work to do on defense, no one is playing any.

When you give up 90+ in a game where the tempo was not fast-paced, it isn't just one player's fault. This whole team plays absolutely no defense and doesn't show any signs of wanting to.

Also, why is Negedu not getting more time? He is the best athlete on the team and looks like he gives 110% every play. Doesn't seem to be the smartest player on the team, but with more playing time and coaching could be very good.

Until we have an offense like Kansas runs with constant motion and picks, look forward to a bunch of Sweet 16's but noting further. Our offense against man-to-man or zone is based too much on one-on-one play.

Oh, and our defense is AWFUL!!

The overall play is awful, but you have to remember we have 3 new guys in the starting lineup and are counting on 2 more newcomers to contribute. This team will be better evaluated in March. If they are still playing this bad, then we are in trouble. This team was overrated from the beginning because we hadn't had a recruiting class like this in a long time. Tyler is the only leader on the team though, Prince and Chism are too inconsistent and whine too much about calls. It rubs off to the freshman. I saw too much whining today, instead they need to just keep playing.

I agree. Give him some time and I think Hopson will be great.

It all comes down to Coach Pearl. He is a very overrated coach. He is great at getting good players but asfar as X's and O's he is not a top 50 coach in that aspect. He has shown over and over that in games he needs to win, he falls short. (Tourney games against Ohio st and u of L, sec tourney games against lsu and Ark) yeah we beat memphis last year but so what. We where down hill after that. Its getting about time to win some games in march.

Haha. So all those games he won his first two years with substandard talent, you got an explanation for that? That comment is pretty absurd.

I guess owning the NC Gators and beating far more talented Memphis teams was luck?

I will agree to a point that BP has been outcoached several times, but what he's done for baskeball at UT is miraculous.

That is ridiculous, Coach Pearl has done a great job with the talent he had. It is a little different for basketball around here. This isnt Duke or North Carolina. As we continue to have winning seasons and have better recruiting classes we will start to win those games. A lot of good teams have lost in the SEC tourney. As for the NCAA tourney we have lost to teams that had more talent than us. Yes, we should have won the OSU game but they still had more talent than us. We are just young this year and will bouce back. Overall Pearl has done a great job getting us on the map. We have a top 100 recruit coming next year and 2 top 50 recruits the next.

Yes I agree that he has put UT's BBall program on the map. He has won alot of games against teams with better players, but from 2 years ago to right now, the talent has improved but i dont see us show great improvenment over that span. Yes we are a consistant top 20-25 team week in and week out, and are getting more tv time then we could have ever thought we could get. But the 3 games we loss this year, we have lost BAD, I love bruce pearl and i think there are not that many coach's who have his energy and passion but as far as X and O's he is not one of the top coaches. I did not mean to come across as saying Coach Pearl is a bad coach.

Ignoring for the moment that UT was ranked "consistantly" higher than 20-25 last year, do you guys realize what a tremendous leap it is for the Volunteers to make a bunch of Sweet 16s and be ranked week in and week out?

Isn't it amazing how quickly our expectation levels rise? And how quickly we can criticize someone (not even done with his fourth year yet) for ONLy making Sweet Sixteens. I think if someone had told you that in CBP's first four years he makes the NCAA's three times and the Sweet Sixteen twice, most people would probably take it (and that's assuming nothing for this year).

That's one thing that, in the end, should come into play. Sooner or later, before any talk at the higher levels of replacing Pearl concludes, someone has to stop and say 'Wait a minute! He got us to sweet 16's and brought us back." Gotta count for something, considering the likes of Peterson and Houston having been at the helm. I would absolutely hate to see another loser coach at UT. I'd rather have a 3 and out team every year than a Peterson or Houston.

coaches are very often victims of their own success. It's the nature of the beast.

Many businesses are exactly the same way. The guy that did most of the heavy lifting to get something rolling is rarely the guy to take the business over the top.

There's a guy who used to live in Fayetteville looking for work that knows a thing or two about getting teams over the top.

I'd take him if he would keep recruiting.
I'd pick him up at the airport. It is utterly laughable to me that nobody has taken a chance on him. Yet, somehow, Jim Harrick kept getting jobs.
