Hopson Finding His Footwork?

No he doesn't. He can't handle the ball. If I'm Pearl, I make him sleep with a ball.

If he can get by his guy with his first step and take two dibbles he's alright(say if he starts around the three point line). If he has to make another move like a crossover, between the legs or whatever he gets in trouble.

Just what we need.. one of out leading scorers changing his shot up 2 days before the tourney

He's fixing it, not changing it. Bad habits develop during a season like a QB's throwing motion if he is getting a lot of pressure all year he might not be stepping into his throws(even when there is no pressure) or short-arming it, a batter's swing, a jump shot etc.

There are so many little things to a jump shot that it is easy to get messed up.

Typically if you are in a slump I would say go to the free-throw line and shoot.

Hopson is shooting less than 60% from FT so it could be all mental at this point.

During those individual workout things during the summer, that is all Scotty should be doing. Dribbling.

He did some serious repair of the moonball tendency over the OS, but it's been creeping back in lately. Might not be too hard to clean up enough to make a difference.

While Scotty may be having some footwork issues, I guarantee that's not the only problem. The main problem is mental. When I played, my skills were pretty much limited to being a good shooter, and I can tell that you can work on form from now on, but if you don't have confidence, you're not going to shoot it well. That's Hopson's problem.

I wholeheartedly agree....but if it takes him thinking that all it was was a footwork problem, that can help his confidence.

Head case pure and simple. Lofton took some of the most off stride out of shape shots in the game and still scored. Problem is Hopson thinks he is above the need to work for his shot and if it doesn't fall he goes and hides.

I just wish he would be consistent. I'm not even hoping for 20 ppg anymore like I was earlier in the year, I just want 15 a game every night. Not that 5-7 point games he has.

I get how athletes sometimes have prolonged slumps which cause them to reassess their fundamentals (e.g., baseball hitters, golfers, and the like). But generally that's not like an on-off switch where you suddenly can't hit any shots for a weekend. And I hardly ever hear people talking about bad footwork for basketball shooters.

Yes, footwork is extemely important for shooters, and bball players in general. Its key on D, and HUGE for shooters and post players. Bad feet means bad balance and or positioning. Your feet align your knees, which alings your hips, which keeps your core square, which keeps your shoulders square, which aligns your elbow, finger, and eye. Crucial. Think of it like this: if a houses foundation isn't square, the rest of the structure will not be.

Well he was in Nashville where he has done a horrible job, so mabye it was a mental thing that was messing it up. I would believe it when I see it agiants SDSU tomorrow.

If Scotty could get the John Wall treatment for a couple of games i could see them at least making it out of this weekend. That would be great, take 3 steps never call it, then get a phantom hack foul on the way there. Scotty would have 12 points off that alone in no time.

If Scotty could play like Wall,he would and people would be calling us a final 4 team.....not a team they think can lose to SDSU.

So where's the new and improved footwork?

I guess he did have to have his feet under him on that one drive to the basket.

Why does Scotty looks so...for lack of a better word, scared on the floor? I'm just a casual basketball fan mind you but, it's obvious to me that he should be driving to the basket. That's how you get out of a slump.

I agree. He looks like he's afraid to be aggressive. He could be physically dominant over a lot of people, but he doesn't have it in him or something.
