Hood Headline

This situation is B*** Sh**. If the kid was not a stand out football player, he would be able to live his life in peace. However, since he is a top notch recruit he is getting his name smeared for something he did when he was 13. I hate what happend to the victim and she is the one who we should concern ourselves with. If she has forgiven him, then we all should.

I did a lot of things I probably should not do, but I did know what was right or wrong when I was 13.
Exactly! That's how I kinda feel about it.
I understand the kid was young, & kids are going to make mistakes in life. At the same time, you know what's right & wrong. Yea he was young, but its hard to let him completely off the hook. Hood had to see that the scenario was not normal. Young or not is was very poor judgment!
I'm not saying that kids don't deserve a second chance, I'm just saying why tarnish the UT name with signing this kid.
Its just not good for UT athletics. Most of our own fans can't understand imagine what rival fans are saying! I'm not saying that hood has not learned & changed his life around. I don't think UT should be the school to give this kid a chance. We are going to get bashed for along time for this! I can't believe hammy let it happen.
I mean I know were thin at D-line but jeez.
This is bigger than wins & losses IMO.
I just rather not jeopardize the name of the university with this.
I mean we already have enough against us now. Former players getting into BS, we really don't need this IMO.
If this kid screws up, somebody's A is gonna be on the LINE. If they want hood that bad, he better not get in ANY trouble, & play like hayneswort or big John IMO.

first logical thing you have posted, congratulations, you are not a total moron.

Amazing that you think it is logical to do what he did..because you have been tossing it aside like it is no big deal...I hope you aren't involved with kids in anyway.

Given that this type of debate comes up a whole bunch around here, I think the vast majority of posters are consistent regardless of which school is involved.

Thinking about it more, VN has found its level.

I think the entire story is horrible and sad on MANY levels.

What I will not do though, is stand by and say that after 6 years of turning his life around, that this KID should not be offered a chance to prove his self to the university and those like you that doubt him.

I don't think 13 is "so young," especially these days. I hope he does well, but if not, Kiffin should take the blame.

On the contrary, 13 is young especially in this day and age. When my parents were kids, it was common for people to be married with children by 15 or 16. At 13 they were very mature in relation to society. Not that they were any more grown up in reality, but they had alot more responsibility by that age. Now days a typical 13 yr old comes home from school and jumps on the computer or ps3/xbox360 to play games the rest of the afternoon. And when they go out and get in trouble, their stupid parents open their wing and protect their little punk kid to their fullest capacity. When my dad was 13 if he went out and stole a car or vandalized someone's property, his parents would have kicked his ass and made him man up for what he did. You can bet he would have been at the victims house working his debt off every day for a long time.

I'd be confused. What would an unemployed coach be signing a player to do? Landscape his yard?
I know. You're easily confused... He would obviously sign him to be a consultant for his future coaching career.

I disagree, I believe drugs and sex are more prevalent in society now. I also think there are a lot parents that are less willing to do what your dad's parents did, so kids are often left to their own devise.

You guys must be kidding right? I mean no disrespect by saying this but had this kid raped a grown woman, and went to prison chances are he would be found hanged. My point being, murderers and thieves will not tolerate a rapist but the vol faithful will forgive a boy that raped a little girl with a plunger, all for the sake of getting another recruit. Dont be so quick to forgive this kid. If the victim had been your niece and Coach Meyer had recruited him would you feel the same? I'm all for forgiveness of transgressions but not being rewarded for them.

If Kiffen goes 7-5 or 6-6 this year, will this signing be viewed the same way as most of you view it now? Or will it be one of the things used by Vol fans to question Kiffin's hire? You know...decision-making and such.

In general, looking at a 13 year old the wrong way will petrify them to the point of inaction. I'm not sure I've met very many kids that would act in that situation. Most would have a greater fear of not soiling themselves.

13 years old is a kid. An emotional trainwreck coping with puberty. The cognitive capacity for a child like that to choose right or wrong in the presence of an older, scary friend is pretty low.

Dealing with people who register on VolNation just to comment on a story that they know nothing about, only to watch them either change their minds or get proven wrong after about 20 posts, is going to get rather tiring...

Thanks for chiming in with your worthlesness. I need to ask, who besides the victim and her family need to forgive this kid? What exactly is our role in the forgiveness? What did he do to us?

Yes...nothing about Daniel Hood would change. He would have to get into trouble himself. And many here expect Kiffin to go 7-5 or 6-6.

Of course she forgives him, did you read about everything going on in the house, the parents were letting these kids sleep over without any supervision...the girl probably thinks this stuff is normal. Do you really think she is right in the head.

Calling Mr. Kettle.

If he didn't sign him, how quick would the masses be to turn on Kiffin if this guy goes on to become a half-way decent player?

We still have people pining over Taj Boyd.
