Vols sign football player who had role in rape - College Football - Rivals.com

First headline i saw. Let's see if ESPN (or other national media) picks this up and runs with it.

EDIT: I see the mods have taken the "RAPE" from the headline, but that was the whole purpose of the thread. It was about the angles that some media was taking. Note the reporterette didn't mention anything about the wishes of the victim now.

Somebody please enlighten me as to why the major sports sites seem to wanna burn UT every chance they get. Every time I click on SI or Espn, especially SI, it's something negative about UT. And if it's even remotely viable, its plastered in the headline topics. Do they really despise Tennessee or am I just seeing the luls instead of the peaks ?

Lane Kiffin - and the Fulmer cup (which he has ironically never won).

The only thing that is out of hand is the fan reaction. All of the perfect people out there living like Jesus obviously don't believe in redemption and second chances.

Yeh, exactly. Maybe the kid had some sketchy parenting, but he is taking responsibility and trying to right his wrong. Does he have to burn for eternity before the hypocrites will let him live on? He was still a snot nosed kid when this happened.

It must be an eastern or southeastern thing then ,cause out west you rarely hear anybody take jabs about LK, aside from a few Raiders' fans here and there.

Yeah - just go to the rivals football message board. I've never seen so much hate and people calling him a babbling moron, an idiot, etc. just for accusing someone falsely. Of course all the people there believe the rumors about pumping gas and any other rumor that was thrown out.

And to top it all off - since they hate him so much and think he's a moron for saying those things - they think that translates into him being the worst football coach in America.

Most of the haters still honestly believe Kiffin tried that 70-yard FG with the intentions of making it - rather than saying "**** you" to Al Davis.

Ok, I see what's up . Looking at the demographics of fan voting it's obvious who the media would react to. Ohio, Georgia, Florida, and Texas make up the more consistent majority of lifelessness..ahem, I mean feedback.

Disgusting that Kiffin signed Daniel Hood, and more disturbing that fans are trying to rationalize it. Read the court case:

This kid did everything short of put the plunger in the girl, and may deserve a second chance, but I wouldn't think that would include giving him a full ride to UT. My wife is so disgusted that Kiffin signed Hood that she is not willing to go to anymore games as long as he is coach. Whether that is right or not, I completely understand her reaction.

The victim of this event has forgiven and moving on (with hopes of keeping the kid in her life). The only responsibility of a sports program is to recruit competitive athletes that will represent the university with integrity and not get them in any negative drama. While it may have been a risk to say the least, I don't blame the university or coaches for giving the guy a chance to better his life. It's not their moral duty or responsibility to judge students based on their past as a preteen, if they show clear signs of reform.
