They never did. At no point did Tennessee impose their will on an inferior opponent. And there were plenty of moments where momentum swung their way where I expected the tables to turn and it never happened.

If they had slapped them around in the 2nd half or began dominating at some point in the game, I'd more inclined to agree.

I would almost agree if the team answered the bell in the second half. The defense did. The offense was still struggling. The O line and passing game better get right in a hurry out we're in real trouble.

unfortunately we are too far gone I believe... I hate it, but if we had a coaching staff that straightened things out at half, got our head out of our arse and separated ourselves in the second half I would agree.... the fact is we are not that good and have an extremely long way to go to right this huge wrong on so many levels... the coaching staff failed miserably tonight, no denying it or trying to hide from it. You cannot defend these coaches after this performance of the staff. The offensive play calling was the worst I've seen in years and our staff didn't make the tough decisions early by seeing Hurd not being the correct back for the defense they were playing against. Speed was needed and they wouldn't except it and just kept running Hurd who would go down like a sack of potatoes swarmed by 3 guys at the line of scrimmage. Dobbs played the worst game of his career. Horrible mistakes and zero confidence in his running ability. If the staff didn't want him to run, put in Dormady and throw it and hand it off. Butch and his high priced staff got out-coached again by a coaching staff that together probably don't make what Shoop makes... we will win about 7 if we make some changes. Hate the hype train was so fast this early because the media will tear us to shreds this week. LONG way to go. Sad

Last I checked we didn't let them score for the last 38 minutes of the game. Thats 2.5 quarters of football. We had tackles for loss when they were in clear field goal range. Don't let your shade of orange cloud your judgment.

Also, take a look on paper the talent differential... the O and D line differential... our lines got OWNED tonight. O linemen whiffing the air and falling on their butts without even being touched....

That was hard to watch from an experienced QB. He should have thrown in the stands instead of the pick. That cost them a shot at 3.

IMO I see a lot and I mean a lot of posters who has read to much in to the hype...... It drives me nuts every year of how some come on here and dog this player or this group or that coach this coach but yet most haven't donned a uniform and played the 1st down of D1 college football. Bottom line is Appy State is a great football team, and coached very well. This win was ugly by all accounts of what the "hype" says if should've been but in my book I see this as a quality win over a quality opponent who will be back in the post season this year. Sun belt conference or not this was a 11 win team last season who was in the post season. Good win, congrats to the players for never giving up. Thanks for continuing to fight!!

Ive posted this a few times but I completely agree.

We needed this. We needed a wake up call. Who cares about the media and other fans. We won .. we needed to grow as a team. This helps. Now we need to beat VT and UF and we are back on schedule.

Appy was consistently getting first downs, chewing up clock and moving into Tennessee territory all without much of a passing game to speak of.

They were averaging over 5 yards on 1st down. Shoop better improve our unit quickly.

Great defenses have a bend, don't break mentality. Florida defense was no different in seasons past. Sure the offense needs some work, but a win is a win, and App State is no slouch.

Appy beat us on 1st downs. All their passes were quick which slowed down any pass rush. They stayed in the game by letting the clock run. Brought the safeties in to support the run. I'll give it to them, their coach had the right plan. Both Tennessee coaches and players continue to play conservative. I don't expect us to be a big passing threat. We are simply a run first time.

My question is that is it more than coincidence that they were coaching a team that got beaten by appy state?
Could it be that they weren't that good then and perhaps the same is true now? I really only question Debord. Hated the hire when it happened and still do now

Yea this is what I was thinking the whole time. The gators will not be as talented as we are but they will be more talented and motivated than the App State team, we just played. Our staff especially our OC and the entire 120 team better get their heads out their collective donkeys because it's not going to be a whole lot easier in the weeks ahead.

I just can't buy into the notion that we "needed" to struggle against an inferior opponent.

Humility? No thanks. Not on the football field.

But damn happy to get the dubya. Things couldn't have gone much worst the first half, and we still pulled out a win. I'll take it.

We didn't have good communication nor eye discipline. Their motion and misdirection caught us.
