Every team wants the next Saban, Urban M, and Dabo but those guys are extremely rare to come by. Dabo isn’t Saban and I don’t think Urban is really interested in getting back in the game. Once Saban retires the college football world and expectations will somewhat normalize.

I think there are plenty of unproven but talented coaches out there who could succeed with the kind of resources available at UT. I also think there are a lot of proven coaches that would come to Knoxville and find out they hate the city, the fans, the competition of the SEC, etc. Whatever happens we just have to have faith in the decision makers. Nothing we can do about it.

As fans we would love to hire a Saban someone we can point to as an A+ hire. However, that rarely happens - but just maybe that D+ hire, like Dabo at Clemson could work out. I am putting my trust in our new AD, I think his goals are even bigger than mine, and if he does not hire the coach I prefer, I am still trusting. Hope - I believe we are moving in the right direction. Oh yeah, that Dabo thing - read here: Clemson's Dabo Swinney era almost didn't happen & more fun facts you didn't know about the coach

Nobody is hiring coaches based on “are they the next Saban”. Nobody is firing coaches because they haven’t won 5 or 6 NC or whatever he’s up to.

I don’t think expectations have changed for anyone really. Not with the regards to winning multiple NC.

Its a roll of the dice. Every great coach has to start somewhere. I'd take my chances with him than some of the washed up names posters keep bringing up.

I feel hopeful. Im glad pruitts gone and Fulmer isn't in that leadership role anymore. Don't get me wrong i like Fulner. But them two guys out of picture makes me feel 100 times better. I know we might not land who we want but i feel way better today knowing pruitts out and now we have a chance to land a good coach. Anythings got to be better than what we had. Lets have some faith!

Yep, just like we didn't want to hire another sunshine pumper like Butch when he left, I don't think we're sticking our hand back on the stove w/ another unproven asst coach, where Pruitt didn't work out. Just too risky. Maybe some upside to Elliot, but just as much downside that we're back on the hamster wheel again in 3 years that we had all this knowledge in front of us and hired another "up and comer"....also, don't need someone learning on the fly w/ all the NCAA stuff and need of repair of our image. Need someone stepping in on Day 1 knowing exactly what they're doing. So, to me ideally, it's Peterson, Fleck, or worst case, Gus.

Honestly, none of them are a guarantee either... just need a coach that brings stability and turns it into an upward trajectory asap.
