Honestly, can this guy lead UT to a SEC/National Championship?

LMAO! I was talking to a couple of fellow alumni here at the office (I live in Kentucky) and we agreed that Volnation would have itself talked into us winning the East next year before the day is over. It appears that we're on that trajectory, just a few more hours to go. Put on more steam!

Doubtful we’d compete but who knows?

Fact is this the best we could get based on the state of the program.

Hopefully this guy stabilizes the program, recruits well enough to remain attractive, coaches well enough to stay somewhat competitive, and makes it attractive for a big time coach.

Or, maybe he freaking crushes it here.

Hoping for the best but not impressed.

You know, it's truly amazing how it seem so many of us seem to have been living under a rock the past DECADE+...We haven't accomplished close to anything, we have been constantly loosing to teams we used to consistently beat, our offense has been sporadic, and we realistically, haven't had a proven winner as a coach...Now we get Josh Heupel [a proven winner with one of the best offensive schemes in the country per stats]...There is so much negativity around this hire, when we should be rejoicing that we got someone decent with what we maybe facing per NCAA sanctions against the program...alot of other coaches probably didn't want to deal with all of this...Also who knows how much more money we would have needed to shell out...James Franklin 7m+...We need to give this guy a chance...Alontae Taylor said "Heupel may not be what everyone wants, but he is what we need".

He's not anyone's first choice but let hope he can solidify the program. Kifffin, Dooley, and Jones drove the car off the road. Pruitt drove the car off the road, smashed into a tree and blew the whole car up. I hope Heupel can at least drive the car, stay on the road and pick up some speed. If we aren't in the ditch again in 3 years, I'll be satisfied.

Nick Saban himself couldn't with our program in it's current state. Give the guy a chance and see what happens. We won't know for 3 years.I feel like when the sanctions are announced we'll be at rock bottom. Year 1 will be about survival. More competitive year 2, then hopefully year 3 we're in a bowl game once the ban is lifted. This is gonna be a marathon, not a sprint. Embrace the ride. Go Vols!
Ahh, the old "marathon, not a sprint" post. We've been in one continuous marathon. LOL!!!

And I say this with hopes he can, and I will support the hire until proven otherwise. But objectively speaking, do you look at CJH and think “yeah we will be competing for an SEC-Championship in the next 3-4 years!”

I’m not sure I can say that.

If we were truly serious about competing, regardless of possible NCAA infractions, we would have broken the bank for a big time coach and not let them say no. Jury is out for sure.

No coach would lead UT to any championship of any kind for at least 2-3 years thanks to the mess by Fulmer and Pruitt.

Come on people, this guy has run a prolific offense and that has been our biggest problem. The game has changed since the days of Fulmer and obviously Pruitts mentality. Maybe a lot of the proven guys were stuck in the past as well and the ones who aren’t wouldn’t take the job. I’m a Freeze guy but this is not at all a bad hire. If we start scoring 40+ points a game we at least will win all the games we should win that we have been losing for three years. Once we start scoring and being competitive the players will come. He should be the exact opposite of Jeremy Pruitt and is a qb developer.

As long as Kentucky doesn't beat us at home by 20+ points that will be a victory. I know, Negavol.

Its not for the faint of heart, that's for sure... I'll just keep cheering and hoping. Call me insane if you wish. Wont be the 1st time. Go Vols!

three or four years? Right now we are talking about navigating possible investigation and sanctions.

Let's worry about the NCAA and the dumpster fire that Pruitt left us. This hire is to try and appease the NCAA and hopefully lessen any punishment which might be brought down on Vol nation. That's what we have to think about right now. AD White hired someone he can trust and who shows some integrity. CJH is definitely someone AD White can trust and has shown integrity wherever he's been. He's been successful at his stops and so what's to say he won't here.

Thinking about a SEC Championship in the next 3-4 years is optimistic. Let’s see what hell the NCAA decides to bring down.

CJH has a history of having prolific offenses and the ability to develop a QB which has been missing for a while. Give him time to hire a staff and the time to navigate any trouble the NCAA has instore for us. At this point give him a chance. GO VOLS!!

How about we just concentrate on trying to make a few first downs for now. This guy is possibly just a stop gap till we get through probation. Nobody would have us in the hunt for championship any time soon.

Let's be real here folks, NO ONE was going to be winning a Natty here in the next 3 years...NO ONE !!!
With the situation we dug ourselves into and what we are facing in probation and recruiting constraints, this is a good hire.
