There are a few posters saying "judge Martin on his entire season this year." Here's my question, would you take our sweet 16 run and our up and down regular season? Or would you take Witchita State's undefeated season but get bounced by an 8 seed in the 2nd round?

I'd take the sweet 16 every time no matter how frustrating the season was at certain times.

I think everyone would say the sweet 16 run overall. But this is a question that would differ during the season. Mid season a lot of people probably have said Wichita St undefeated. That's just how our minds work. But yeah, right now, I don't wanna be Wichita St. at all.

I might add if at midseason you gave these 2 options, I think most vols fans would have laughed at the thought of a sweet 16.

a sweet 16 is obviously good, but 35-0 is something you can point to as a coach/fan/player and say that no one else has done it. I think that would be neat

1 giant heart break vs. many minor heart breaks. That is a huge toss up. Who am I kidding, we are one of the last 16 teams standing, with a chance to be one of the last 8. I'll take that any year.

Idk... To be one of the ONLY teams EVER to have an undefeated regular season.. But there's 16 teams that go to the Sweet Sixteen every year.. I'd go with Wichita State, but that doesn't demean anything from Tennessee's success.

A few weeks ago, I would have been extremely disappointed. I knew that with this team's talent and upper class leadership, we were underachieving. However; right now, we are where we should have been all along. We just took a crazy way to get here. Rather than win the games that were close games all season, we dropped several close games. So, most of us thought that there would be no way we get in the NCAA; much less, far in to the tourney.

We arrived at the Sweet 16, like we should have all along, and that is really all that matters.

Losing in the Round of 32 takes quite a bit of the shine off that 35-0.

The question behind that thought process is the following.....

Do you judge a man by the entire body of work or do you judge him by a brief, immediately recent sample of work?

To play devils advocate here and try to give the most negative take....

They were favored to win all these games.. There wasn't an upset here.

And they tried.....really, really hard.....to lose to Iowa. People are forgetting that. They looked horrible during that game.

They looked horrible during large portions of the season.

Do wins over Iowa, umass, and mercer erase all of that?

I see both sides of this.

But, it seems like zo is getting a lot of credit for the team playing to its potential....which means people have now chosen to ignore how much they did not play to their potential....to the point of almost missing the tournament
What? Iowa was a solid team. Completely false opinion. They looked horrible? You must have turned it off after the first half.

I misread the question too.

But, with regard to the Iowa game, it should not have been close

Depends on how far Tennessee goes

At the end of the day, CCM was gonna get a 4th year regardless. Theres been too much wasted money on buyouts to Fulmer, Pearl, Raliegh, Hamiliton, and DD. Hart first focus from day 1 one has been getting the football team winning.

You take a guy that consistently makes deep tournament runs regular season be damned.

However, I would suggest no one can do that while consistently putting up Januarys and Februarys like Martin has. He coached himself out of the tournament last year and nearly did this year as well.

Its either a fluke and he won't be able to pull it off consistently or he has grown as a coach and we won't see regular seasons like we have. Well find out next year I suppose.

Not true, last year he almost coached him self into the tournament. We won our last 8 out of 9 games, and would have gotten in the tournament if we didn't lose at Georgia.
