You may feel this as rambling but I try to get all my points across.

1. First things first, as a Gator fan that was a frustrating game to watch on both sides. I was at the game and have not watched a replay yet. However, I don't recall either team throwing the ball more than 15 yards past the line of scrimmage, except for both of Crompton's INT's. I don't recall ever seeing that in a college football game. Even GA tech throws the ball down the field 3 times or so a game. I felt UF was too conservative in their play calling and did not even take a "shot" at a big one. Which leads into point #2.

2. IMHO, Meyer had his handle on the game and never gave Addazio the reigns to call it - this was obvious. Meyer contacted NFL coaches to draw up his game plan and he has been drawing it up for 3 weeks or so. IMO, NFL coordinators told CUM the way you win against a MK coached D is you run the ball right at them. When he was at Tampa, that's how you beat the Bucs - you ran right at them. I think this is the reason for the conservative calling. 200 rushing yards speak the obvious.

3. UT's D is for real, I don't care what anyone says. I knew it would be closer than what was predicted, it had to be. Monte had zone blitzes that UF had not seen and probably if seen, we would have still faired the way we did on O. You have the best player in America in Berry and I hope he decides to hit the league next year b/c he is a terror.

4. I thought CLK was too conservative in his play calling to win the football game. Why not give Stephens a try if every pass Crompton throws will be a pick. Down by 10 with 4 to play and he was still running the football and no desperation. This did not make sense to me, maybe it did to you. I honestly felt like he was just trying to keep it a 10 point game.

5. CLK had a game plan to keep UF's O off the field and he did a great job doing it by controlling the clock. In 2007, the Auburn game plan was the same - controlled the clock and kept Tebow off the field. UT just did not have the horses on O - mainly QB - to win the game.

6. You can visibly tell a difference in the athleticism of this year's TN team and the past couple years. Jackson, BB, and Hughes will be play makers in the future the Gators will have to look out for.

7. I think Gator nations' eyes were opened yesterday and it was a nice intro for CLK. I feel frustration when I watched this game because TN's game plan was exactly how it should be. I can just see CLK having this for years at TN giving UF problems in the future. I get the same feeling whenever we play Auburn and they beat us seems like every time we play them.

8. I am already looking forward to next year's game. I have a passion for this rivalry - mainly because most my people are TN fans. I will be in attendance at Neyland and what a game that will figure to be.

9. Unless TN gets an adequate QB to fit the system, it will be this way for a few years into 2011 before you should contend for championships. BUT with your D and the way it is, you will always be in games.

10. If you believe in moral victories, you have a W. Great game and looking forward to seeing how your season plays out.

Seems like you get it! I agree with almost everything you said. I didn't know Meyer had been speaking with NFL coaches. Glad to hear that. We got D and just need O. Maybe we can get it in the next 2 years and give you guys a loss or 2.

Meyer needs to talk to folks about this offense. With out Tebow it will be a dud.

Defense won UF's championships.

Nice job VictoryVille.....I was equally impressed with the D and Hardesty running hard. I think however the loss of Spikes hurt us as well as having Deonte Thompson out literally took away any deep threat. I think Addazio was too conservative on the playcalling and UM wanted to prove a point about running the ball. Strong made nice adjustments after the half.

LK and his staff did an excellent job especially with what they had to work with. UT has a bright future ahead if they can get another top quarterback to go along with Bray.

Nice game Vol fans......

Ah, more Playstation worthy "why didn't Lane put the backup in" commentary.

I don't understand why Lane didn't just put the fastest guy on the team at QB and scramble left or right every play. It gets 9 yards without fail.

For the record...the qoute about Kiffin singing Rocky Top after beating UF was bogus...the media cherry picked the part they knew would stir up controversy...and left out the 2nd part, where he kiddingly stated Mike (Hamilton, the AD) told him to say that. Everyone there and everyone who watched the press conference in it's entirety knew he was joking, and got a big laugh out of it.

Just before that, he was emphasizing he couldn't tell us when we'd be back on top, competing for Championships...just that no one would outwork him and his staff. If the media played that part, in it's full context, there would be no story at all. I'm just surprised no one in the media tried to get the story straight. I'm surprised that CLK didn't point that out instead of allowing the media to perpetuate this fallacy. I think he realized that they were inadvertently giving the program lots of free advertising, and therefore decided to keep playing their little game.

Secondly, CLK (at that time) probably and incorrectly thought it was against NCAA rules to be contacting a recruit while they are on an official visit to an opposing team's school. It's dirty and low down to do so, so I don't know what all the fuss is about. Meyer should have more class than to be buzzing a recruit he knows is right in the middle of an official visit, and right in the middle of a basketball game between UF and UT, with UT coaches likely present. That's pretty shady, if you ask me...and it should be against the rules. After all, the hosting school is having to pay big money for all the travel, food and lodging...and for many recruits which will commit elsewhere. They should be respected during those visits. So, it's just as callous and disrespectful for Meyer to be buzzing Nuke on his official here, with CLK right there in his company, as it was for Kiffin to mistakenly call it a violation of NCAA rules. Tit for tat at worst.

Now onto the game...I think the UT defenses performance in the UCLA game probably got their attention, and made them realize that CMK would have a few tricks up his sleeve for them...and he did. Every time Tebow tried to step back to pass, he either saw blanket coverage or a defender in his face (the pass rush was UT's strongest suit in Spring and camp practices...with CLK saying that Walker was just unblockable...similar comments about Hughes)...it's probably been awhile since Tebow was sacked 3 times...almost had a 4th in the 3rd qtr. Anytime a defense gets that much pressure, it forces an offense to go to a more conservative approach. UF seemed content with one short gain after another. And it won them the game.

I agree...I thought CLK had thrown in the towel early in the 2nd half, and was just trying to keep the game as respectable as possible. You don't hamstring your QB and playcalling that much and expect to come out with a win. Having said that, I bet he's just as frustrated as we are that he has a bust for a starting QB, and his options are limited after that.

I'm hoping we can bring in Cam Newton...which you know well, I'm sure. I think he'd be the best "Quick Fix" solution for next year at least...if he can beat Bray for the spot. I think Bray is going to be a killer in the SEC, but I don't want to see us rush him if he's not ready, nor put all of our eggs in one man's basket (ala Crompton). Cam would be the most ready to play, IMHO, and would perhaps want some payback.

Gator,

Thanks for being gracious in the post - we're giving a lot of Gator posters grief for their comments, but yours stuck to what happened on the field. Appreciate it.

For Tennessee fans, or at least a majority of them, Kiffin's strategy made some amount of sense. We've watched Crompton for two years now, and while he's All Vol and a Tennessee boy at heart, he struggles with pocket accuracy and checking down. He struggles to make decisions when he's under center. "Why not play the backup?" Well, our backup never met double coverage he didn't like passing into ... sometimes even triple coverage. And with your secondary, that's an even worse formula for disaster. Faced with this kind of situation Kiffin decided to keep it on the ground and play the run. (it's worth nothing that when he did break this policy in the third quarter, probably to take a chance, Crompton tossed up an INT; swap that INT out with one good run, and UT would have been almost even with Florida on the scoreboard).

For observers, I understand how they might see this as "oh, Kiffin played not to lose big," but for many of us on the other side the strategy gave us what we needed in this game- a chance. Which was something no one was giving us going into the Swamp. It didn't work, which is disappointing for Vol fans, but it was better than our old strategy of getting Hopefully we'll get more of those in the future ... along with a pocket passer. Here's hoping.

Congratulations Vol fans. You'll played a great game, your fans looked like they were having a good time.

After watching the game, I believe that I would have put Berry in at QB. What a talent. :dance2:

Look forward to seeing you next year, in Knoxville. Good luck the rest of the season. And, please, stop recruiting in Florida.

1st let me say GREAT GAME!! Berry is the man! Also I've been lurking on here for a while and only decided to post after the game , I don't normally share my opp. Not that any of you Vol fans care what a Gator thinks, I never bought into the 30pt spread or the hype we would be undefeated and NC,before we even play a game, Our fanbase like yours is full of fairweather,Goober fans that think the unthinkable, for instance, the talking heads saying last Sec champ.game with Bama would be a blow-out by Fl, and we would hang a 100 on the Vols,Let me softly say this THIS IS THE SEC hellooooo!!! Mcfly anybody home Mcfly!!. I am personaly friends with a great family from Maryville and the lady of the house works for UT, they are proud fans and won't their team to win just like we do but are realistic in expectations. your team like our has some work to do but it is always a process, your team did yall proud this weekend and yall should be excited about the rest of the season ,this Gator fan is.Good luck and let's hope for no injuries or players getting Pig flu. GO GATORS!!!
