I think everybody agrees that we need to have a HR hire this year. We've tried the young up and comers and it just hasnt worked. We need a coach that can control a program and fan base. So with that in thought: whats everybodys thoughts on the following:

1.) Bob Stoops- Can win at the highest level. Has a ring. Wont be intimidated by Saban or any other big name coach in the SEC. Can recruit.

2.) Pete Carroll- I think the NFL has figured him out, he may be ready to leave. A little older, but would be awesome to see somebody with his pedigree in orange.

3.) Les Miles- We have all talked about him, and honestly we should talk about him more. Hes an SEC rockstar, can recruit at the highest level and learned that the wrong coordinator hires can ruin him. Wont make that mistake again. Could be the best choice out of everybody.

4.) Brady Hoke- Hes already familliar with the prog-hahahaha sorry couldnt even get through that one without laughing. Sorry. I was just kidding with that.

5.) Josh McDaniels- I wonder if hed leave NE ala Lane Kiffin. I really believe he would be an awesome college coach. I could honestly see this next hire we all scratch our heads and say "I never thought of that one". I could see that.

6.) Gruden- not gonna happen. so stop talking about it. would be cool though.

7.) Mike Leach- Has success at Wazzu and wouldnt take any BS from fanbase and administration. Would get offense cooking.

BTW - most of this came from a vandy fan. enjoy.

has already said he's not coming back to coaching. i'll say zero chance here. not worth the discussion.

see above #1.

he's 64. he was fired because he was stubborn. the only thing Les Miles would be for us is a stop gap between now and the time we get the guy we really want. and we've already had a guy that could recruit at a high level and whiff on game day, in the biggest moments.

4.) Brady Hoke- Hes already familliar with the prog-hahahaha sorry couldnt even get through that one without laughing. Sorry. I was just kidding with that.
touche....that one would get you lit up...lol.

dont think he'd translate to CFB, and he's going to get another shot as a HC in the NFL at some point.

6.) Gruden- not gonna happen. so stop talking about it. would be cool though.
i have doubts here as well. in my gut, i don't think this happens. the only thing i will say is it does have a different feel to it this time around....last time i gave it no shot. this time i'm only 60/40 against....

i still think our next coach is from that Dan Mullen/Scott Frost (though i think SF winds up at FL ultimately...but the more i look at him, the more i like him) group...you could include Norvell, Strong, Durkin, Chad Morris, Brent Venebles among others in that group as well.

Leach and Miles are the only realistic options on this list IMO.

Stoops is done with coaching.

Carroll isn't leaving the pros.

Hoke....hahahaahah

Mcdaniels- not leaving NE

Gruden- almost as funny as Hoke, but I wish he would come.

I saw that too but I also dont believe coaches when they say they say they are done with coaching. Saban ruined that for me.

i like norvell

Everyone acting like Gruden is a laughable impossibility need to ask themselves this: If we tried last time and there was no chance he was going to take the job, why are we trying again?

that's a good point, and why i've sort of changed my tune from "no shot" in 2012... i still don't think it happens, but, i do see more room for the possibility this time around.

1. Is on record that he is done with coaching.
2. I don't see him coming back to college. And I don't get where you think the NFL has "figured him out,". Seattle is still a very good team.
3. Les Miles is Fulmer 2.0. If that is the route we end up going then we fired Fulmer and went through the last ten years for nothing.
4. Glad that you said you were kidding on that one because I was about to. Well never mind.
5. I would be on board with that big time, but I don't see that happening. I think he'll be an NFL coach soon. I could actually see him being Belichick's successor.
6. For one I just don't see him ever coming here. Secondly I'm not convinced he'd be the home run everyone thinks he'd be.
7. Quirky. Offensive genius. Defense is optional. I don't see his style translating well to the SEC.

Is there any credible evidence that we are, other than a handful of people in the Gruden thread that claim to have "connections"?

I heard a stat that something like the last 35 head coaching hires in the SEC only like 6 came from a power 5 job. Many where coordinators, lower level, promoted etc. Why on Earth, after what has gone down here, do any of you expect that a high level successful coach would come here?

Calling Brady hoke a home run hire makes you look like an idiot..there are basically 2 home run hires that are conceivable imo..kelly or gruden

We are all assuming that this supposed home run hire will, in fact, win big here. Even if we land the biggest fish available, that doesn't guarantee SEC titles or even wins. It should. And it should guarantee top recruits every year. Whoever we hire needs to have enough name recognition that he can pull a couple guys on that alone.

maybe he won't cancel the meeting this time.

Sans Gruden, that is the worst grouping of poor choices and unrealistic choices I've seen to date.

The NFL has "figured out" Pete Carroll? Really? That guy is 6-3, has won his division 3 of last 4 seasons, and has 10+ wins in the last 5 seasons.

How do you know FOR SURE that we are trying? You dont.

This is why I’m not getting my hopes up. I would like the hire, but I’m not gonna get my heart set on rumors on the internet, it didn’t end well last time. Until the UTAD, or Gruden says something, I’m gonna not get emotionally invested. It’s fun to read the rumors and hope, but I’m not calling everyone like it’s a fact.

On a different note, I’d take Stoops in a heartbeat.

well, there's nothing confirming anything out there, really, but there is a lot of circumstantial evidence out there, and a lot of things that line up, and make some sense. and there are a lot of people talking about this outside the fan base...finebaum has entertained this notion a few times, the Tennessee connection is referenced even in the rumors about Gruden going back to Tampa Bay, as if there's some competition on who might land him actually...and some of the rumor mill stuff, if you can cipher thru it all, there are some nuggets that do make you think....

again, i'm not to the point where i think it's a done deal or anything, like some have stated, but i see enough smoke to not rule it out completely this time.

10-6, 10-5-1, and on the way to another 10-6 year this year. With all that talent, losing in first rounds 2 years in a row, id say hes figured out. 6-3 isnt good enough with one of the most talented teams in the league. Move along sweetheart.
