Holly Warlick

I have always been a Lady Vols fan, and if had choice of seeing LV play or men, chose the Lady Vols every time. I have been a Holly fan and on the surface, her record is impressive and I think she deserves kudos for handling a horrible situation during Pat's last two years and then taking over admirably after Pat retired.

But, this team is just painful to watch. For the first time EVER, I turned off the TV last night - I just could not take it any longer, and have literally been in a funk (started to say depressed, but this is still just a game) over how bad we are. It is obvious the girls are not motivated. It is obvious that Holly does not have a clue how to get to them. It is obvious that we have more talent than other teams we have played, and sadly it is obvious it is time for a coaching change.

I thought this would be "the year" that we made it back to the Final Four. If we do not improve, we are not in the final four of the SEC this year.

Hindsight is 20/20, but we would have been far better off if Holly had been given one year as a transitional or interim coach while we conducted a search for the best available coach that we could entice here, whether it be Walz, Frese, Staley or someone else with a proven track record as a head coach.

Sure she won't, people said that 2 years ago, but yet her best year was last year.... Last year she posted the best hole record the lady vols have ever seen

They keep records now for the best "hole" in women's basketball? Well, call me darli'n and slap me silly, cause that's a new one on me!

There are some in this forum that will stand by Holly even if we were to lose every game for the rest of the season. Likewise, there are others that would not be satisfied with her even if we made the Final Four. Most of us, I think, are somewhere in the middle.

All the talk about not being a real fan if you believe one of these ideas is silly. We all care deeply about the Lady Vols or we wouldn't be on here.

The one thing I think we can all agree on is that there is a problem. Whether it is the players, the coaching, or more likely, both, it will not fix itself. Fair, or not, it is up to the head coach to solve the issues, whether they are her creation or not. She must recognize the problem, confront it, and fix it. This is what a successful boss, leader, head coach, etc. has to do. It is their job to lead.

Can she be that strong leader? I don't know, and that is part of the problem. After so many years at UT we should be able to answer that question, but personally, I can't.

Last year I watched the Gonzaga and Maryland games. The old LV would have run Gonzaga off the court and won by 10-20 points. Maryland would have been a closer game, but LV would have won by 10 after hitting their FT. Holly has to take the team to the Final Four where we belong.

She has said in the post game pressers that she didn't know how to fix it. That should tell Dave Hart something!

I am surprised that anyone will back a coach who admits that she can't fix the issues with the team. Such statements do not increase the confidence of the team. If I was a recruit and heard a coach say such a thing, that is the last coach I would want to coach me. Sad to say this coach is way over her head.

Holly has other assistant coaches w/her to seek their opinions on how to fix this big glaring problem on how to run the offense & how to make it work. If this new offense the coaches put in for this year is not working they better get back to the old offense that did work last year. Damn, they can't afford to sit around until it's too late to cost this season to go down the toilet.

She is taking The Lady Vols to the whale poop level. No offense and I have seen no evidence that the team wants to play for her.

When players are on scholarships they better be giving at least 100%, no matter who the coach is. If they do not want to give 100%, then they should tell the coach and sit their arses on the bench and begin the transfer process.

Something happened somewhere between the Texas loss & the VT loss. Did the players just decide to quit for this coach but not really show it? I wonder if there was a shouting match between coach & players & the girls said screw it? Something's not right for the Lady Vols bb team to act this way by not scoring points to win.

Maybe there was a fist fight. Or a gun battle. Yeah, that's what happened. I know for a FACT somebody got tased.

Holly, will be fine. She has to figure how to get them to play hard on both ends of the floor for 40 minutes regardless of the opponent.

And she is still learning, she learned to dummy it down her offense for them, now its up-to the players to play hard all the time to be able to play the championship level of basketball that, that we need to play to compete for Championships, anything less than playing hard for 40 minutes is not going to cut against elite team.

Our guard play was better, not great but better. She has to coach for perfection.

I agree that Holly has to find the way to get her players to play hard for 40 minutes. We can't continue to throw players under the bus if they don't play this way or that way. The coach has to accept responsibility for the failure or success of their team. Do we blame them for failure to recruit a post player for 3 years or the ability to make changes when the team goes South. This is Holly's team and there is not any way she can avoid responsibility for the makeup of this team and how they play on both sides of the ball.

I don't know if I see any indicators, based upon the way we have been playing, that Holly will be fine and all will be good. Time will be the judge of that not any of our posters.

It's not just a matter of playing "hard," though of course that's important. It's a matter of playing WELL. That is our biggest problem. Playing hard doesn't make our bad offense better. And, really, are people STILL saying that Warlick "is learning"? Yes, we all hope she learns to become a good coach by, oh, age 70.

Do you think Pat and Geno knew it all after 4 years of being a HC, that they quit learning after that?

Point taken, but CPS started right out of college as a head coach with no coaching experience. Holly was an asst/assoc coach for 30+ years. One would hope that her learning curve wasn't quite as steep as a head coach.
